Cavs 06-07 season thread

it's absolutely astounding the difference in this team. a lot of it is hughes at the point. while he still isn't going to sizzle the nets with his shooting, the fact that he's running the point and being involved in the offense has limited his penchant for taking terrible shots.

that, and LBJ has been unstoppable.

So is he still a liability...:wink2:

if they put him back at the 2 guard and he shoots 33% from the field and 50% from the line.

They were saying in the last game that at PG Hughes looks for lanes to slash. He'll either take it to the hoop, or dish it off. At SG he would look for open spots to setup for a shot. He is much better at slashing than shooting. Now opponents have to play everyone honest because any of the starting 5 can kill you if you leave them open. That opens up the floor for everyone else.

Exactly. It's no coincidence that we became infinately more explosive when Larry moved to the point. When he is slashing he is dangerous. When he is pulling up and shooting, he is not. With him at the point, you have to account for all five guys on the floor, which in turn opens things up for LBJ. Even Z is benefitting as he is able to get more of those 10-12 footers that he is so good at. FINALLY, these guys are playing up to their potential, and it couldn't come at a better time.

Yeah this is great, you know they were capable of this. Gibson leaving with a toe and moving Hughes to 1 is the best thing that has happened to this team all season. Hopefully they'll keep it going after a 2 days off tomorrow night v Utah. Mavs are in town on Wed, should be good.

Fans likely to have boos for Boozer

Harsh words reserved for player who slipped out for $68 million

By George M. Thomas

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - The game tonight against the Utah Jazz will be just another game for the Cavaliers, but for the team's fans, it's something altogether different.
It marks the return of forward Carlos Boozer to Quicken Loans Arena more than two years after he became the biggest sports pariah in Northeast Ohio since Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore.
In the summer of 2004, the Cavs decided not to exercise an option worth $700,000 in Boozer's contract. After speaking with Boozer, the team believed that he would accept a six-year, $41 million contract, the most that they could offer him under salary cap rules.

Sounds like a good win. 'Bron with nearly a triple double. Boozer, I guess, clanked two critical free throws(much to the delight of the crowd I bet).

I would have loved to be there to taunt that douche Boozer.

The Cavs just keep rolling though, now they just need Detroit and Chicago to mess up.

Former excuse is now strength

Cleveland Cavaliers' Sasha Pavlovic, from Serbia & Montenegro, knocks the ball away from Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant during the fourth quarter of an NBA basketball game Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, in Cleveland. Pavlovic tracked down the ball to score two of his 21 points in Cleveland's 99-90 win.

Earlier in this roller-coaster Cavaliers season, one explanation (read excuse) for why the team was underachieving was, as coach Mike Brown and General Manager Danny Ferry put it: ``We're still young.''
This sounded good and seemed like it might be true, only it wasn't. At the time, four of the Cavs' top seven players in minutes -- Eric Snow, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Damon Jones and Donyell Marshall -- had already celebrated their 30th birthday.

CAVALIERS
Ilgauskas starts to step up game

Zydrunas Ilgauskas has found that offensive rhythm that he lost prior to missing four games for personal reasons.
He has regained a shooting touch that is unblockable. Prior to Saturday's game against Utah, Ilgauskas averaged 15.6 points over his last three.
That offensive resurgence was on display during the fourth quarter against the Jazz. The Cavaliers led by four with 4:05 left and coach Mike Brown made the call for Ilgauskas to replace Anderson Varejao.

Cavaliers' defense toughens, and that's no joking matter

Coach Brown's emphasis on protecting the middle firmly on players' minds

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - As practice ended Monday afternoon, Cavaliers coach Mike Brown started rebounding for Larry Hughes as he did a little shooting work.
When Hughes playfully pretended to drive on his head coach, LeBron James shouted from the other end of the court: ``No middle!'' The worlds echoed around the empty seats at Quicken Loans Arena, followed by a chorus of laughter.
``No middle'' is what Brown constantly screams from the sideline when the Cavs are on defense, the most vital principle in his somewhat complex system: keep the ball from getting to the middle of the lane. During the course of an average game, Brown might issue the in-game warning about 50 times.

In a winning rhythm

Seeking a ninth straight win, Cavs keep to successful routine
Tuesday, March 20, 2007 Jodie Valade
Plain Dealer Reporter
No need to worry. LeBron James has, in fact, changed his underwear in the past two weeks.
The Cavaliers star is not the superstitious type, which means that even as his team surges with a current NBA-best eight-game winning streak, he isn't opposed to minor tweaks in the game plan or in his attire.
"I don't wear the same drawers or anything," he shrugged Monday.

The Cavs have been rolling lately, but I wish they'd go out and throttle the Bobcats like they're supposed to. They're going to overtime right now.

I gotta ask, how the hell did this team just give up 19 points and 9 rebounds to Ann Coulter?
