Cavs 06-07 season thread

No. But that's good. He will never win a Championship now.

You didn't know about this? You do know that Wade also signed one at pretty much the same time, right? In fact, their names (along with some Caramello Anthony fella I've never heard of) were almost mentioned together in every single article about the topic. I think you're crossing the line into flat out flaming. Not recommended. BP can "make it rain" red chiclets in quite an impressive fashion.

You aren't a Cavs fan so what are you going to discuss?

What's your insight on Larry Hughes' stuggles?

Larry Hughes' shouldn't even be a Cav. He had only one All-Star type season that ended in an injury. You guys should of gotten Joe Johnson. Right now he is a better player than Larry. For some reason him and LeBron haven't gotten in Sync with each other yet, or so it seems.

I don't think Joe Johnson was ever really an option for the Cavs.

Regardless, that didn't really answer the question.

Why do you think Hughes is struggling, since you're a fan of everything Ohio now?

Well, except for that one season before he came to Cleveland, he never really was a great player. It probably is because LeBron is looking more for his shot this year, instead of passing as much as he used to. If I'm not mistaken LeBron only averages 5.8 assists per game this year. If you look at Hughes career points per game, it is 15.2. This year, he is averaging 14.7 points. And his career field goal percentage is .413%, and this year it is .398%. So, he isn't that far off his career averages. Also, I'm pretty sure the type of offense ran in Cleveland is more of a half court offense, and Larry Hughes thrives more in an up tempo offense.

I really think tonite showed why we need Larry...I know we should of won the game and had 10 million chances and no excuses why we lost the game, but the thing is down the stretch when Dallas starting sending two guys at LBJ b/c we had Snow on the court, but it was either give up some offense or defense where Gibson was struggling on the defensive end...

If we have Hughes we could go with the lineup of Hughes, Pavs, and LBJ in the backcourt and we could have offense and defense...

BTW Hawg he had the flu...

Also LBJ needs to get a killer instinct and until he does he won't bring a championship to Cleveland...

Without reading anything in this thread after this post. I actually went to bed thinking that they looked better without Hughes. If Hughes had taken it normal shots the game might not have been as close as it was at the end. I really like the lineup of Lebron, Gibson, and Pavlovic. Don't get me wrong, they need Hughes as well for his D and ability to drive, but Gibson and Pav do a better job of spreading out the floor. A lineup of Gibson, Hughes, Pav, Lebron, and one of the big guys might have worked well last night if Lebron could cover Dirk without getting too many fouls.

Hughes just needs to play smarter. He can hit the spot up threes when Lebron drives and dishes. He gets himself and the team into trouble when he tries to create a three off the dribble(which he insists on doing at least twice a game) or when he takes a 19 foot jumper 5 seconds into the shot clock. Those aren't his shots. He can hit the three when he's standing still, and he can drive and hit the midrange/layup. That's his game. I don't know why he insists on trying to make these other shots.

It just kills whatever offensive momentum the Cavs are able to build up. Hughes isn't the only guilty party. Lebron takes A LOT of bad shots too.

I know Hughes and Lebron want to play a Suns-esque offense, but we don't have that personal and a suns style offense doesn't mean taking quick threes, which they seem to think it does.

The Cavs are best when the ball moves around the perimeter. This opens up driving lanes for Lebron, Hughes, Pavlovic, and Gibson. This creates room for Z and Gooden to operate. It allows our three point specialists to get open.

If we would just patiently work the ball during possessions, we'd be doing a lot better. But we're so tentative. Most of the time the offense consists of Lebron getting the ball, and the rest of the team clears out and waits for him to do his magic. That's great and all and it produces some amazing plays, but we can't rely on Lebron to make the offense work all the time.

This is why they desperately needed to pick up a pointguard in a trade. They need to get one this summer. This will help Lebron and the Cavs so much.

Ball movement and playing smart are the keys. We don't have a team of one on one players. Lebron is the only one, while Hughes dreams of being one. Gooden and Z can operate one on one, but EVERYONE on the team's game gets better when we're moving the ball and finding the open man. There are some great passers on this team, so there is no doubt in my mind that if we just played smarter this team would improve greatly.

I like the lineup as well, but in crunch time that isn't going to give you a great defensive team on the floor...

I watch games complaing about Larry, but realize that we need him for what he is, and if he would ever be a little smarter with his shots when he is not hot, then he could become a much better assest to the team...

I am kinda on the fence of sending Brown to the D-league...He is going to get minutes there that he isnt getting here, but he played pretty well last night, maybe they just want to get him in the swing of playing some more minutes and then bring him back for the end stretch of the season...
