Cavs 06-07 season thread

NFBuck;694363; said:
This team plain sucks right now. The worst part is LeBron seems to have regressed this year. Something needs to change right quick. No way should this team be struggling like this with the East as pathetic as it is. Like I said before, I can't believe this is essentially the same damn team from last summer. Don't tell me Flip Fucking Murray meant that much. Brown needs to really lay into these guys (if he's capable of doing that), and LeBron needs to just go out and be LeBron. Incredibly dissapointing season so far.:shake:

What I want to know is what happened to the team that showed up in San Antonio at the beginning of the season. Mike Brown needs to do something.

That seems to be the hallmark of Mike Browns team. They can look like world beaters in one game, then look completely inept in another.

Pistons fluster mediocre Cavaliers

Detroit's stiff defense disrupts passing lanes in second-half blitz

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - The Cavaliers have been playing mediocre basketball for quite some time; now they have a mediocre record.
Nothing new happened Thursday night and, frankly, that is the issue. The Cavs were blitzed by the Detroit Pistons 87-71, losing their third consecutive game.
And it might be getting worse. During the third quarter Larry Hughes appeared to reinjure his right ankle when he fell to the court attempting to play defense. Hughes, who missed 10 games with a high ankle sprain suffered last month, played the rest of the game but was favoring the leg. After the game he was downtrodden and limping in the locker room.

Surging Pistons put Cavs to shame

Cleveland players need to find focus before season slips

By Terry Pluto

CLEVELAND - Will the Cavaliers pay attention now?
Will they realize they are not an elite team? That they have wasted a chance to move to the head of the line in the Eastern Conference? That instead of getting better, the season is turning worse?
That's the message from the Cavs 87-71 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena.
Here come the Pistons, who won a memorable seven-game series in the second round of the playoffs from the Cavs. You'd think the Cavs would be ready for this game, a chance to continue the rivalry that began last spring.

LeBron wears wrap for ailing left knee

Tattoo, bursitis reasons for sleeve on right arm

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - LeBron James is being bothered by tendinitis in his left knee.
He has been dealing with it for some time but has started wearing a supportive wrap just below the knee in games. As is his style, he is downplaying it.
``It is nothing big; I've been working on it,'' James said Thursday. ``During the game, (the brace) just helps protect it.''
He's also wearing a sleeve on his right elbow, which he said was to protect a tattoo he just had retouched.

SPORTS SPOTLIGHT TODD PORTER

CLEVELAND

So much for momentum ... and home-court advantage ... and LeBron James. So much for standing up to the bully, even if the bully is a year older and Rasheed Wallaces? bald spot looks a little bigger.
So much for the Cavs being the Pistons? huckleberry. On Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena, all Cleveland did was blow ? and shoot ? raspberries.

Loss drops Cleveland 2 1⁄2 behind Detroit
Friday, December 22, 2006
BY Mike Popovich REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

CLEVELAND Not much has changed since the Cavaliers and Detroit met in Game 7 last spring.

The Pistons took apart the Cavs that day and reached the Eastern Conference finals. In Thursday?s rematch, the fourth quarter again was all theirs. Detroit outscored Cleveland, 30-16, in the final period and pulled away to an 87-71 win in front of a sellout crowd at The Q. The Cavs finished an anemic 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) from the field in the quarter. It could have been a whole lot worse if they didn?t get to the line and make 10-of-12 free throws.

Lapses on offense inhibiting Cavaliers

Too many long shots, poor guard play add up to long string of losses

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - The Cavaliers are suffering through their longest losing skid of the season, having dropped three straight.
Why? Numerous shortcomings on offense.
It is obvious just watching the games they are struggling in halfcourt sets, an issue that has plagued them on and off over the last three seasons as teams began double-teaming LeBron James.
A breakdown of the numbers shows the current reasons.

LeBron brings game back to court

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - This is how a Most Valuable Player delivers.
The Cavaliers were in dire need of heroics Saturday night, and appropriately their hero finally came through. LeBron James reprised his signature performances of last season, taking over in the fourth quarter to lead the Cavs to a 86-83 victory over the Orlando Magic at Quicken Loans Arena.
It was hardly a command performance from the home team and there is plenty left on the plate to address, but what the Cavs needed first was a win to break their three-game losing streak. For a long time it looked like that wasn't going to happen against the scrappy Magic (17-12), then James found his groove.

LeBron knows when it's time to take over

By Terry Pluto

CLEVELAND - It was the end of the third quarter of the game Saturday, and LeBron James spent most of the timeout in the huddle with the Cavaliers' coaches.
The rest of the team waited on the bench.
You don't see that every game, a player in the coaches' huddle for that long. This is not a sign that James is attempting to take over the team, but it was obvious that he had a message that he wanted coach Mike Brown to hear.
He was just sick of losing. The Cavs were behind the Orlando Magic by three points. They carried the burden of a three-game losing streak into the game.

Cavaliers game day

Andriuskevicius seriously hurt

Ex-Cav hospitalized due to punch by teammate

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - Friends are saying former Cavalier Martynas Andriuskevicius is lucky to be alive after an altercation Thursday at a practice with his NBA Development League team in Bismark, S.D.
Andriuskevicius, whom the Cavs drafted in the second round in 2005 and traded to the Chicago Bulls last summer, was punched by Dakota Wizards teammate Awvee Storey. The blow knocked the 7-foot-2 20-year-old out, and he crashed to the floor, causing a concussion, fracturing his skull and opening a two-centimeter hematoma on his brain. He's still in a hospital in South Dakota, as doctors guard him against seizures.
