BULLS 103 CAVALIERS 96
Bulls? second-half run sinks Cavaliers
Sunday, December 31, 2006

CHICAGO LeBron James was doing his usual thing driving for dunks, connecting from the outside and leaving the helpless opposition behind.
The Chicago Bulls refused to go away. Instead, Luol Deng scored a career-high 32 points, and the Bulls went on a 24-point run in the second half of a 103-96 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers last night.

Cavs can't run with Bulls

LeBron's birthday spoiled by 24-0 drought that erases seven-point lead, brings loss

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CHICAGO - In many ways, the events Saturday night at the United Center were an effective microcosm of the Cavaliers' season.
For long stretches the Cavs battled a quality team admirably, playing efficient and effective offense and smart and tough defense. Their star showed periods of dominance when he was unstoppable, and the Cavs looked unbeatable.

Cavs say Bulls play hard, but not dirty

Tough style attributed to teachings of Skiles

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CHICAGO - Last week Miami Heat coach Pat Riley called Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich ``dirty'' after Heat star Dwyane Wade injured his wrist while being guarded by Hinrich.
Riley said that Hinrich purposely pulled Wade's wrist while closely guarding him and does such things frequently. He's not the only NBA coach or executive to have hinted that the Bulls sometimes use questionable tactics, especially when guarding opponents.

CAVALIERS INSIDER

He'd been waiting for some time

Sunday, December 31, 2006

Chicago- Forward Dwayne Jones spent his first 27 games on the Cavaliers bench resembling a coach. He wore dapper suits instead of a Cavs uniform.
After hours of practice and spending his time cheering instead of participating in games, Jones finally got his chance Friday night against the Milwaukee Bucks. He played for only six minutes, but Jones was happy to finally get his chance.

Spurs vs. Cavs: Part Two

Early season win in San Antonio long forgotten
Tuesday, January 02, 2007 Branson Wright
Plain Dealer Reporter
The optimism went through the roof. The Cavaliers' defeat of the San Antonio Spurs on Nov. 3 not only gave the Cavs two straight victories to open this season, it provided an early hint that the road might not be quite so much of an obstacle.
But the Cavs have only won three road games since then and those came against mediocre teams - twice against the Atlanta Hawks and once against the Knicks.

Cavaliers have not lived up to hype

Record is two worse than last season, with nine of next 11 on road

By Brian Windhorst

The sentiment coming from a vocal portion of the Cavaliers' fan base, along with various local and national pundits, is the team has underachieved in the first two months of the season.
Perhaps that is incorrect. Perhaps they were overrated by many from the start and simply are about the same as last season, when they finished fourth in the East and advanced to the second round. After all, it is pretty much the same roster. The only different player in the rotation is rookie Daniel Gibson, who loosely is playing the role Flip Murray vacated.

The Spurs have been getting bullshit calls the whole game, yet Pop is the one to get T'd up. I would love to see the Cavs get a home court advantage every once and a while.

DJ was just fouled on that 3, no call

Nice team win last nite over the Spurs. LBJ and Hughes both went for 19 and 18 repsectively.

Those grind it out games are the games that will help the confidence later in the season.

I have noticed one thing tho, that if LBJ doesnt have his jumper falling we are scoring around 80-88 pts. and when he does have his jumper falling we are upwards around 100. IMO his jumper has been falling more at home, hence the reason why we score more at home and have a better record at home.

Cavs grind out a win

Spurs fall in gritty game coach says shows `mental toughness'

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - There's something about the San Antonio Spurs that brings out the best in the Cavaliers.
The two teams played a game Tuesday that was just as rough and leathery as the freshly returned old school basketball, which suited the coaches just fine. More important than the style of play to the Cavs, though, was their fashion of play.

A few good men step up in the end

By Terry Pluto

CLEVELAND - Just when you think the Cavaliers could be in big trouble this season, they win a game like this.
Cavaliers 82, San Antonio Spurs 78.
This was a game in which the Cavaliers scored 12 points in second quarter, 11 in the third quarter. It was a game in which LeBron James didn't score in the second half until 5:06 was left in the game. Calling the Cavs' offense ``bad'' would have been a compliment -- because it meant the Cavs actually had some sort of offense.

Bowen's aggressive style doesn't bother LeBron

Physical defensive play can lead to injuries; league keeps watch

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - There are few players in the the NBA who are more physical and aggressive when guarding LeBron James than Bruce Bowen of the San Antonio Spurs.
James ranks Bowen and Ron Artest of the Sacramento Kings as two of the most difficult defenders.
