If BJ only gets 20, I will be ecstatic. If we force the rest of Canal to beat us, I think we have a shot. I would say he gets 35-40 on us but Graham has to score a ton tonight. I know you can try to stop entry passes and be somewhat effective but if he gets the ball anywhere near the bucket, he has a foot on our tallest guy (and probably 50-60 lbs.), so that would be a problem. However, 22 hit it on the head...Graham is "sound". Coach Brook Cupps has done an amazing job with the guys and the guys have also played year round, putting in hard work. Can't wait for tip off.

Graham wins 63-50! I have good news and bad news on BJ...first off, he is a phenomenal talent. Amazing drop step, quick feet, nice touch,and he is obviously huge. However, he better get his head in the game...he constantly complained about getting fouled (when a couple over the backs weren't called on him), he got a technical at a crucial point in the game, and then came the worst. When it looked certain Canal was going to lose, BJ blatantly ran into a Graham player in frustration to foul out and after he did, he taunted the Graham crowd...OSU22 will be on here soon to pitch in I'm sure. The bad part it Graham wasn't even heckling him during the game. He ended up with 31 pts. and he is a great talent but he better get his mental game together quick. Many OSU fans in the Graham crowd were pretty disappointed with the way he acted. In any event, I really want BJ to succeed and I still am excited he is a Buckeye.

While I agree with your statements about BJ's actions to the crowd, I think you are exagerating on the blatantly running into the player. He was running down the court and started to turn to get into position in the post and ran into the kid. With his size, he simply sent the kid flying. He needs to work a little harder on the offensive side of the court because in college not all kids will be 1 foot shorter and 50-75 lbs lighter where he can just reach over them for the inlet pass. He also needs to get a thicker skin to handle the roadhouses in the Big10.


I have to say Graham is a very sound and fundamental team. Great motion offense with many screens and back door cuts. The key is they have the outside shooters to make it work. That Schuler kid was a machine. They play like this on Sat and they will be in Columbus next week however Alter and CJ are both bigger across the board as compared to Graham/should be a good game.

Could be as he is just much bigger...it just looked like he was taking out his frustration to me though. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but that really ticked me off, especially his gesture toward the crowd. Like I said, I want to see him succeed but hopefully he gets mentally tougher, as it's only going to get tougher in college. Agreed on working harder on offense...it appeared he just simply used his height most of the time, though you could see glimpses of what makes him special.

Shuler is the real deal. He lit it up like that last year and I'm pretty sure he's not done growing. He has an extremely smooth shot and he's a great player. Graham looked amazing and definetly had one of their better games. Congrats to both teams tonight though and good luck with BJ's progression towards becoming a Buckeye.

Graham chopped down Canal Winchester's tree one 3-pointer at a time. First it was Ben Rosenberger. Then Josh Schuler, Ethan Ward and Austin Jones.
The Falcons knocked down eight 3-pointers, shooting over Canal Winchester's mobile 7-footer, B.J. Mullens, on their way to a 64-50 win in a Division II regional semifinal at Wright State's Nutter Center on Thursday, March 6.

FAIRBORN, Ohio -- On Canal Winchester's second possession last night in a Division II regional semifinal, B.J. Mullens was called for an over-the-back foul.
The Ohio State-bound 7-foot-1 center shook his head in disbelief.
A minute later, Mullens was whistled for the same violation, which seemed even more of a phantom call than the first.
Two minutes into the game, he had to take a seat on the bench. By the time coach Kent Riggs put Mullens back in, undefeated St. Paris Graham led by nine.
Canal Winchester rallied to tie the score but couldn't get over the hump and lost 64-50 at Wright State.

Mullens most certainly did flatten that kid on purpose... Ran straight into him and lowered his shoulder while doing it... Very chippy. I, like RB, was disappointed with his attitude... Constantly complaining and working the officials, a technical foul for arguing/language, taunting the crowd at the end of the game and while walking off the court... He's going to have to grow up a lot... I think the refs definitely screwed up some calls, but he completely lost his cool a couple of times...

As far as his game, he moves very well for someone his size... He has soft hands and seems to be a very good passer, especially hitting the outlet man (which he did quickly and effectively). I would like to see his range a little more, but he had no reason to use it in this game... He, like most young big-men, is going to have to learn to a.) not go over the back on rebounds, and b.) stop bringing the ball below his waist in the paint. He had the ball slapped away several times that way (credit Graham's tenacity as well)...

Schuler was money for Graham... Stepped up and hit big shots whenever they needed him... Graham's a tough match-up because at any given time they can put 5 guys on the floor that can dribble and shoot... Several kids were "onions" last night to quote Bill Raftery... They moved extremely well without the ball as well... Lots of good cuts to the hole for open shots...

I stuck around and watched the Alter/Chaminade-Julienne game as well (Alter won an ugly one), and Graham should have no problem whatsoever with Alter... They have one guy who could be a tough match-up (6-6 Ryan Siggins, dad played at UD), but that's only because he's got a good jumper and is big enough to get it off... But Alter isn't overly impressive and their bigs don't play big...
