C Amir Williams (Worcester Wolves - England)

I won't be using the 2013 Wichita State mantra. Ever. Just FYI :sneaky:

Amir needs bring more toughness defensively. This team was still struggling in the paint on D and Amir had 0 rebounds and 1 block in 23 minutes.

Yeah, I'll piggy-back on that. The Bucks gave awesome effort defensively on the perimeter but their interior defense has to improve to win any games in the post-season. Amir can't just disappear from the offensive in the half court sets or OSU becomes too one-on-one oriented and they aren't good enough to win that way. McDonald and Amir had 1 rebound between the two of them. Not good.

Well - this was the 1st sign of a tremendous effort from Amir Williams that I have seen in quite awhile. The 2 blocked shots were great and scoring 12 points overall, tells you he is really trying to get better. Maybe he is just now starting to believe in his own abilitys. But still there are areas that he can improve in such as the interior as you said. So we shall see what happens down the road. Lets hope it continues to get better.

I will present this as a simple observation, and include a disclaimer that this is not a criticism of any particular player: It is very difficult to play offense in the paint when you cannot catch the ball consistently, and it is hard to rebound on either end in the paint when you cannot grasp the ball consistently.

Amir is an enigma to say the least. My son with a DT-looking build was an undersized post in HS - he might have got to 6'3" with thick soled shoes and craning his neck. His coach had 6-4 guards. I asked his coach why Junior was playing in the post. He said, "Because he's the meanest and nastiest kid I've got." Amir has the measurables. He does not appear to have the mean/nasty streak. It's a man's game down there. If you are passive, people are going to abuse you.

Amir hurt us today. He really needs to get a chip on his shoulder, post someone up and take it to them. Never see him power someone ever, he either gets a wide open dunk or a weak muscle attempt at a layup. He needs to watch 2 days worth of guys like Shaq, Hakeem, and Dwight Howard and try utilizing that more for next season.

I see you have given up on Matta but have faith in Williams SMH.

Just going on my gut, yesterday AW had the look of a guy whose heart and mind were somewhere else - and it wouldn't surprise me if his body was somewhere else next year. Most guys would give their left nut to play in the NCAA tourny, but Amir was so incredibly passive. The Buckeye posts played 27 min combined to go 0-2 from the field and not really impact the game with rebounding or defense. I would like to think that Thad made a smart coaching move by going small, but in reality, what choice did he have?

Who is the post coach at Ohio State? Might want to look at that. It may be one of the folks from the PR department that advised Smith, Tressel, and Gee before that infamous press conference. :biggrin2:
