C Amir Williams (Worcester Wolves - England)

A kid that big having his feelings hurt over some things said on the internet might just be why he is basically invisible during games. Maybe reading BP before games might piss him off enough to actually be a big man.
I am in his corner, all the way. Yeah I agree here, He needs to get pissed off, especially of himself. I hope we will see a big difference in his effort and attitude come next season.

Matta would love to see some consistent consistency from Williams. It will be interesting to see if Williams is not pick hhis game up if Matta will play Lee at the 5 position even though he was told he would be playing the 4 if he transferred to Ohio State.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Like every senior does before his final season, Amir Williams talked about how he wants this year to be different, how this is his last chance to accomplish everything on his collegiate checklist.

But if Williams were being completely honest, he probably would concede that this season isn't about proving anyone wrong or living up to the crazy hype that surrounded him in high school.

Williams' career is past that point.

"I hope we can get Amir playing at a consistent level," Ohio State coach Thad Matta said. "I think he has a good understanding of 'This is my last go-around' and that the sands from the hourglass are falling through."

Let's rewind 12 months and see what Matta said about Williams then.

"I think we're just looking for consistency," Matta said last November. "

Amir is extremely misunderstood with his demeanor on the court according to this article and is backed up by Coach Dickerson and some of his teammates.
A conversation with Amir Williams about why he looks like he's not trying as hard as he can
"I don't know," Williams said. "I never had that feeling where I didn't feel like I was giving my all on that court. I don't have a good answer for that, honestly. I feel like I'm giving my all every time I step out there."

• Ohio State set up for tough NCAA Tournament road

Williams, standing bare-chested and in a pair of shorts in the OSU locker room, answered as you'd expect. He didn't yell, didn't get angry, didn't really challenge the suggestion. He said it wasn't the first time he'd been asked some version of this.

"I see things different from my way," Williams said. "Like I said, I don't know where that perception comes from. Maybe it's the look on my face or whatever the case may be."

I asked assistant coach Dave Dickerson, who works with the OSU big men and has tutored Williams for four years, and senior Sam Thompson, Williams' teammate for four seasons, the same question. I also told them I'd already asked Williams.

Both said the same thing. They wanted to know what Williams had said. I explained he said he tried his best and knew he maybe didn't look that way because he's not demonstrative.

"I agree with him. I agree with him," Thompson said. "He's an easy target because he's a big guy."

I've always wondered if he has an undiagnosed underactive thyroid or something. He seems like a good kid, he isn't without talent, and he looks like he's worked hard in the weight room so I don't think he's lazy, but he's just never seemed to have any energy.

I think he plateaued after he graduated from high school. I just posted the article because he always acts like he really does not care and according to his coaches and teammates he does care.

Some guys bring energy (PJ Hill, David Lighty) and other guys suck the energy out of others (Kostas Koufos, to a certain extent Shannon Scott).

I think Amir has the skills to be an excellent big. As Jag said he's clearly put in work in the weight room, but the instincts just aren't there.

It's always troubled me that fans deride players' effort or attitude when we really know FA about it. There's no way to ascertain how hard players have worked unless one coaches them every day.

My problems with Amir do not revolve around how much he cares or how hard he's worked to develop his game. They revolve around what his production is, given his evident talent. It's frustrating, but I don't blame either Amir or the coaching staff. I just don't know how he could have been coached differently to develop more production. And I suspect no one on this message board does, either.

I think the effort thing comes from a few games where he has obviously played pissed off and with something to prove. When he was animated those games he was went up with power and was dominate at times. When people didn't see that angry streak in him the other games they questioned whether he was giving it his all. It's not fair but I can see why it happened.

It is frustrating, I find myself most frustrated that there isn't anyone else to put in the game-don't get me wrong, Matta is fantastic.

If you have read the article, it is not about effort and that comes from his teammates and Coach Dickerson. Amir just does not show much emotion when he is on the court.. According to them, he is trying but maybe he was a little overrated coming out of high school and we are expecting more than what he can give.

I expect a McD's AA to be able to catch the ball, grasp a rebound, and score from 2 feet. Given that he has not been able to consistently do those things, is the problem here really my high expectations?
