Bucknuts and Scout Part ways

I read today in the Dispatch that the payday loan industry has hit $4.2 billion in the last year. That's a lot of lawyers...

BN is full of SQL errors. The login and register pages both time out, as do the forums. What a trainwreck.

For former BN premium members, are they now members of Scout.com, BN, or both? Who keeps the paying members?

Fuck Bucknuts, the front page was always pretty good to check out but other than that the place sucks-it got way too big-way too fast.

Remember in the "good'ol" days of Bucknuts back during the 2001 season (when I found the place) how much fun it was there? Over the years, though, they systematically became more $$$ oriented and banned the people who made the place a fun place to hang around. Thank God for C-Dog and his insight in creating BP. In the early days, pretty much dominated by the "usual suspects" from BN, but look what it has grown into.

Guys, this legal battle could get ugly...not sure how many people know who Mr. Bucknuts really is, but money is not an issue with him at all. Through his Columbus business(es), he has a long line of networked connections...Fox/Scout knows this.

Don't expect a quick fight unless its a suitable buyout to ensure a clean break.

I know there's some money behind, we'd be illegal if it wasn't for other states usury laws, but going after Fox. He'd better be stuntin like cash money to hang with them

Well I am going to change my earlier stated opinion that it will be too expensive. I do so in part because expense is relative, and as osugrad21 kindly points out Mr Bucknuts is heeled, apparently quite well. The other reason for the revision of my opinion? Mr Bucknuts has the legal high ground, period.
A quick search at the Trademark registration database at USPTO shows that Bucknuts LLC in 2001 registered the term Bucknuts for use in commerce, citing precedent from 1999. This trademark has never been revoked, nor re-assigned since that date.

Thus there are two logical outcomes --
1 - Scout will be forced to change the on-web identity of the ohiostate.scout.com site to a new moniker. Bucknuts (the new site) will continue to enjoy the benefits of the old trademark and will forever own the rights to that name.
2 - (Unlikely) Mr Bucknuts assigns rights to Scout.com to use Bucknuts and the new BN takes on a new moniker.

Sorry, but there are now just too daggone many Buckeye web sites. And every one of them (Bucknuts 1 and 2, BSB 1 and 2) costs money to join. Screw it. Back to reading the Dipsatch and logging onto the Planet for me.

Had dinner with the guy that started "what if sports" last night. He said that Mr BN better be ready to lawyer up because the FOX Network are some nasty fuckers and have a bunch of attnys on retainer just itchen for a fight.

My guess is that the New BN will be forced to change their name after a while and hope that they have attracted enough people to pay the bills.

I am surprised Scout isn't offering free access right now. Keeping the base is as important as the name "Bucknuts". Get folks to include your sight in their Favorites and you have won half the battle.

They just started a 2 for 1.

Scuttlebutt is that some of the chickens might be coming back to the roost. Man, this one has ugly written all over it.

I stopped by the new Bucknuts for the first time today to check out their BBall chatter. I hate their message board format. May seem picky, but their success could turn on that alone. Their approach needs a loyal following and it has to maintain critical mass.

And BP just keeps on chuggin along.

Seems as good a place as any to throw props to C-dog for making this place a reality. And props to the whole community for making BP what it is. Aside from the gnus schism, we've pretty well avoided internet drama altogether. Best free site on the net! (Which, incidentally, automatically makes it better than any pay site)
