If you aren't complaining that he left and aren't whining about him leaving, then why continue posting childish insults of him on BP?

Like I said before, UC won all of those games you listed. No harm, no foul. Why continue to whine about something that didn't negatively affect UC? Let it go.

I want you to apologize to H&G. I do not want to think about what could happen to you and your family if this does not happen.

Kelly's assumption is that if Texas had lost, Cincy would have been #2 in the BCS standings. I believe TCU would have been, but Kelly chooses to ignore the intricacies of the BCS in order to state that he was '1 second away' from having Cincy in the BCS Title Game.

I can see him using that phrase the way that Cholly used to wave around his Super Bowl rings.

There's a blurb on ESPN today that says he wants ND to play Cincy in football. It doesn't mention how unlikely their appearance at Nippert Stadium is.

I'm sure it will be with the usual courtesy and fraternity with which ND treats its fellow Big East members: two games in South Bend and one game at a neutral site of the domers choosing.

Never let truth get in the path of rhetoric borrowed from a whining BearCat board post ...

ND plays Big East teams on a home and away basis with regularity.

2008 - ND hosted Pitt, 2009 ND visited Pitt and hosted UConn
2010 - ND hosts Pitt and Rutgers, 2011 ND hosts Rutgers, vists Pitt
2012 - ND hosts Pitt, visits Rutgers, 2013 ND hosts Rutgers, visits Pitt
2014 - ND visits Rutgers, hosts Pitt, 2015 ND hosts Rutgers, visits Pitt
2016 - ND visits Rutgers

So, for Rutgers, over that 9 year period there are 4 home, 4 away games.
Pitt is also equally distributed, four and four.

This of course is far less pejorative than the charge of two home, one on a neutral site - but then again the truth is often much more dull than fantasy.

Thanks sandgk. I thought there was a big controversy with Rutgers where ND refused to play at Rutgers new stadium and demanded that the games be moved to Giants stadium. Rutgers said eff off, so the domers dropped them for a home-home-neutral agreement with UCONN.

There is a possibility they could try to pickup Cinci in a home/neutral site series, or home/home/neutral, or whatever. Probably not a home/away, but who knows. I don't know if it was by design, but they picked up Washington the year Willingham got the job there. They also played Stanford after Willingham was hired, but I think that one was in the books.

And in all fairness to ND OSU has used a similar bargaining stick. There's no way they'll ever play UC in 35K Nippert when 60K Paul Brown is available. They played Toledo in Cleveland this year and at least once got Northwestern to move their game to Cleveland Municipal back when that place was 80K +.

You're not going to find all the times ND offered a team a bullshit deal of 1 game in SB and 1 game at a neutral site, because thankfully those teams told ND to fuck off. But they were certainly offered.

If the argument the heartbroken Bearcat followers were making was about every other team, with or without a spine, it might be a refutation of the strawman they raise. (Though evidence of that policy being in effect for other BCS schools might, you know, actually help their case).

But, that wasn't it at all.

Their canard was that BE teams get a 2 there, none here, one at a neutral site shafting - which clearly is not the case.

Geez, I can be just like Jim Tressel. I can. I really can. I'm driving a big rig now too. I can. I really can.

Jim Tressel Speech Checklist

  • Address crowd at basketball game
  • Mention how many more days until something. Wait, let's not mention a game when we're likely to get our rears handed to us. Uh, 259 more days to season opening?
  • Speak about values. Hard work. Play for four quarters. Winning championships. Wait, what championships? Might of screwed that up
  • Involve fans in the effort. Hey, don't those kids do pushups or something?
How wonderfully creative and stirring. THEY'RE BACK!

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- New Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly drew a big cheer from Fighting Irish fans attending a basketball game against UCLA on Saturday when he talked about bringing the school back to prominence.

"The reality is we're here to do a job and that job is to develop players, graduate players and win championships," he said.

Kelly, who arrived from Cincinnati on Dec. 11, started his speech by telling the fans it was just 259 more days until the Irish open the 2010 season. He asked Notre Dame students if it's true they do push-ups after every touchdown. The student section let out a big cheer.
"You better use this holiday break to get in shape because you're going to be doing a lot of push-ups this fall," Kelly said, as the fans again applauded.

The Irish lost their last four games this past season, finishing the regular season with a 6-6 record for a second straight season.

Kelly told the fans the Irish are going to need their support.

"We're going to play hard for four quarters," he said. "We will play hard four quarters. You will love the guys we put out on the field. If you just play hard and you play aggressive, you're going to win a lot of football games."
How TSUN media reacted to the first message

As if becoming the 22nd head football coach in Ohio State history didn't provide enough pressure for Jim Tressel, fans could turn on coach Tressel faster than you can say John Cooper if he isn't successful against Michigan after his memorable introduction speech.

After formally being introduced to the crowd at halftime of the Ohio State-Michigan basketball game in Columbus on Jan. 18, Tressel, who had been coaching Division I-AA Youngstown State, wasted little time before bringing the 18,500 fans to their feet.

"I can assure you that you will be proud of your young people in the classroom, in the community and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan."

Tressel has repeatedly said he was not guaranteeing victory over the Wolverines on Nov. 24.

So how exactly does the new Ohio State head coach plan to make fans proud of their Buckeyes?

"You know what the important date for the people in Ohio is just like it is to the people in Michigan. And I want (the fans) to be proud of (the players) that they went out there and they played clean and hard and tough and as well as they could. I think that's what determines people being proud of one another," Tressel said.

Although a clean, hard, tough loss would be nice for the Buckeyes, Ohio State fans are tired of losing to Michigan and will be expecting consistent victories over the Maize and Blue before long.

[See original article at (link), excerpted from here]

Even if his halftime speech was not bulletin board material, Ohio State fans believe they can actually beat Michigan away from home a sentiment that faded slowly after every loss in Ann Arbor under former head coach John Cooper.

In order to beat the Wolverines in Ann Arbor for the first time since 1987, the Buckeyes won't be able to rely on as much talent as they have had in the past. The Buckeyes are only returning 10 starters and most analysts are unsure as to how the Buckeyes will fare next season. Lindy"s pre-season poll puts the Buckeyes 39th while another respected magazine, Athlon, ranks the Buckeyes highly at 16.

Although the talent at Ohio State is much more impressive than what Tressel had at Youngstown State, he realizes that they are still undermanned for Big Ten play.

"I don"t think we have as many people at every position as any of us would like to have," Tressel said. "But I think it"s very adequate and I think the more we get to know each other we"ll be aware of what our current weaknesses are and what we need to get better at."

So far, Tressel and his straightforward approach have been widely accepted, according to athletic director Andy Geiger.

"He's really rallied everybody," Geiger said. "I think the team is probably more focused than I have ever seen it. He assembled an extraordinary staff. Everything is positive. The response, from alumni to recruiting, has been really extraordinary."

Along with the fans, the players have put their trust in Tressel, describing him as a father figure and already predicting that he will be the coach to bring Ohio State another national championship.

"Well, the thing that I would like them to know is that I truly do care about them and not just about how they play football," Tressel said. "You know, how they do everything in their lives. And if that is what a father figure is, then yes that is what I would like to do. But I want them to know that we are there for them. On the other hand, we"re going to expect a lot out of them."

Among the activities Tressel will be carefully monitoring off the field are his player's academics. Last year, Ohio State"s graduation rate for football players was a mere 28 percent, worst in the Big Ten. The team was also embarrassed by a 0.00 grade-point average by senior wide receiver Reggie Germany. Tressel established a 59 percent graduation rate among his players at Youngstown State and he and Geiger hope to continue the success Tressel had at Youngstown State.
Not quite so smug as they once were, those TSUN fans. Now, let's see if Kelly can walk the walk.
