Brian "Body Kount" Kelly (HC Louisiana State)

This is interesting if true.

Notre Dame membership is on BE Agenda - BearcatNews Forums

At some point, the Big East has got to sack up and say, "enough is frickin' enough."

  • BE "Member" ND poaches fellow BE coach
  • BE "Member" ND uses another BE coach as a bargaining ploy, then drops his ass when Kelly signs.
  • BE "Member" ND refuses to play BE teams home-and-away. It's home-home-neutral site.
  • BE "Member" ND poaches BE bowls when they don't make the BCS
  • BE "Member" ND takes advantage of the conference for basketball and Olympic sports but refuses to share a penny of their football revenue
And the real gasser is that Notre Dame will never, ever join the BE for football. Their own faculty would burn the place down if after all this, ND joins a football conference that doesn't include CIC membership. Yet, year after year the Big East grabs its ankles and lets ND have it's way.

Well BE; who are you going to be? Little Boy Blew or William of Orange?

Brian Kelly said he may not be Notre Dame's coach if Cincinnati were playing for the title - ESPN Chicago

Kelly talks about the timing of the job opening up, and how he probably wouldn't be coach right now had the Nebraska/Texas game gone differently. He would have waited to coach Cinci in the NC in that case and ND may not have waited that long to name a new coach.

Kelly also identified that he'd like to play Texas and is going to talk to the AD to see if they can be scheduled in the future. He says the team is asked to be the best, so they want to be around the best programs. Quite the step in the opposite direction there considering the previous AD was dumbing down the schedule to make it easier to win.

Oh, and theres a little bit in there about Kelly's house being egged :)

Kelly's assumption is that if Texas had lost, Cincy would have been #2 in the BCS standings. I believe TCU would have been, but Kelly chooses to ignore the intricacies of the BCS in order to state that he was '1 second away' from having Cincy in the BCS Title Game.

I can see him using that phrase the way that Cholly used to wave around his Super Bowl rings.

There's a blurb on ESPN today that says he wants ND to play Cincy in football. It doesn't mention how unlikely their appearance at Nippert Stadium is.

Negotiations are hung up on NDs request that their ticket allocation comprise the full 35,000 capacity.

Ah, now I see, you have a commitment to stay with your team if there's a chance you can be the NC coach, but that commitment goes by the door if your team is only playing for the 2,3, or 4 spot.

Pardon me, Strohs, but aren't you the poster who just told me that you take your dream job whenever it becomes possible and that there is no place for ethics when school and coach are negotiating?

Oh, and what happens if, say, UC should beat Florida 42 - 21 while Texas slips by Alabama 10 - 7 in overtime. Could there be a Pete Carroll NC trophy in the bearcat trophy case?

Well, let's say Dick Wad doesn't go bowling next year -- and there's a good chance he won't -- and Northwestern does... you don't think UM alums might cast an envious eye at their neighbor's coach?

And if you're Fitzgerald, or even Ferentz, might you not look at the UM job and ponder what it would be like to have a 100K stadium, their facilities, their fan base, their recruiting resources, their history on your side?

Buckeyeskickbuttocks:Miss the sunrise? You'll be lucky to survive the 1,000 mile an hour winds that a sudden stop in rotation would cause.

And if, in December of 2006, I had told you that Florida would beat the Buckeyes 42 - 14, your response would have been what?

Something the BCS folks are glad for is that all the news about Kelly/UC/ND is keeping the fact that Boise State and TCU are given their BCS bowl off the front pages. What it says to me is that not one of the "big boys" wanted to play them so they get conveniently shoved off to their own private Tier 2 NC game.

I know, I know, conference alignments, blah, blah, blah. But I can bet you that there are a few ADs in the B10, SEC, PAC10, B12 who are breathing easier not to have to tangle with either of those two programs.
