Sporting News: LSU, Ohio St. players receive Wii gifts

LSU, Ohio St. players receive Wii gifts

December 27, 2007

Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- While their schools are making millions of dollars off their appearance in the Bowl Championship Series title game, each of the players from Ohio State and LSU will at least walk away with one of the hottest gifts this holiday season.

The Buckeyes and Tigers will receive a Nintendo Wii video-game system in addition to several other gifts for participating in the game on Jan. 7 in New Orleans.

Most stores have sold out of the Wii, a game which allows people in their living rooms to participate in video sporting events. A wave of the controller is represented on the screen as the swing of a bat or a golf club or a tennis racket.

The bowls presenting the Wii had to work hard to reserve enough of the games.

"It was not easy," said Mark Neville, a spokesman for the Holiday Bowl in San Diego that also is giving the Wii. The Alamo Bowl in San Antonio is the other bowl with the Wii in its gift package.

Along with the video-game console, each of the Ohio State Buckeyes and LSU Tigers will get four Wii games, a baseball cap, a watch and a fleece pullover.

According to NCAA guidelines dealing with amateurism, a bowl can spend up to $500 per team member. Each school can also give merchandise worth up to $350 per player.

I'm sick and tired!

Ok... so I went to the Holiday Bowl this evening to watch what I hoped to be a highly competitive game between UT and ASU.
NOT!
But what bugs me is the total and complete disrespect for the daunting Buckeye D-fense!
I'm irritated and pissed, and so should our disrespect D!
If you can't score you can't win Tigers!:2004::stupid:

OSU joins debate about speed again
Jim Naveau | [email protected]

COLUMBUS ? The speed question. It always seems to come up when Ohio State plays in a bowl game against a Southeastern Conference school or a team from Florida.
It?s back this year, with No. 1 OSU (11-1) playing No. 2 LSU (11-2) in the Bowl Championship Series national title game in New Orleans on Jan. 7.
The perception is that teams from Florida and the SEC have a speed advantage over Big Ten teams. A big advantage.
Just last week, one Louisiana columnist wrote, ?Ohio State likely has a speed disadvantage against LSU, particularly on the fast turf track in the Louisiana Superdome.? Others in LSU country have jabbed Ohio State as being ?Slow-hio State.?
Where does that perception come from?

If you made the mistake of watching ESPN's halftime bit about OSU's lack of speed last night you saw how they are going to act even if we beat LSU.

We still won't have as much speed, we'll just have played Tressel ball and found a way to negate the other teams speed advantage. :shake:

I'm honestly trying to recall any other team in CFB history that has had the type of success we have had and was so universally disrespected. I can't think of anyone.

Really, that's fine with me...

Though, and this isn't a shot at Miles... but... I really think he negates any speed advantage there might be on his own by his style of play (at least on offense). They play power football... and good for them... its just that if the stereotypes end up being true... why do you want to play power football with SEC kids against Big Ten kids? Whatever the knock on Miles, he wants his team to go out and punch you in the mouth... and so do we... and that's the fun part about this game.

Yeah, its just frustrating to me to hear the same shit over and over and to watch such an obvious double standard be applied to OSU.

Case in point last night, Texas hangs 52 on what was supposed to be a very good ASU team. Do we hear anyone mention lack of speed? I heard Davie say it one time in the first quarter then Herbie of course stands up for the Pac 10 and says UT is just more ready to play the game than ASU. Does this doom the Pac 10 to perpetually be second fiddle to the B12? Does this tarnish USC the way scUM getting beat tarnished OSU in '06?

Nope...just a good game by Texas. Everyone knows the Pac 10 is fast.

Actually I think they are using the wrong word when they say speed. I think it is more accurate to say that the style of SEC football equates to more quickness. 40 times between the two teams are basically the same. Anyway, who cares what ESPN says about OSU, they have dogged LSU for years and a week after the game it will be something completely different and a different team...

Stat wise, its been a fairly balanced offensive attack this year. The O is averaging roughly 220 yards per game running and the ball and 230 yards passing.

Now the challenge for the LSU offensive coaching staff is to come up with a plan to rack up 450 yards against your D.

except for the fact they have been on us about the same topic for the better part of 7 years now.

Maybe so...but just win. Talk is talk, the "W" is all that we really care about. And it's not like recruits are using their "speed" to run away from tOSU and towards the speedy SEC. We still get more than our fair share of talent, so the media talk.....meh, it's simply talk.

Just win baby.
