Maybe so...but just win. Talk is talk, the "W" is all that we really care about. And it's not like recruits are using their "speed" to run away from tOSU and towards the speedy SEC. We still get more than our fair share of talent, so the media talk.....meh, it's simply talk.

Just win baby.

Agreed.

Its just one of those times the talk has gotten through my "they are bunch of idiots paid to stir up controversy, pay them no mind" filter and pissed me off.

Kind of like getting a Michael Bolton song stuck in your head after a doctors office visit. Normally you don't even pay attention to the background noise but every once in a while you do and Bam!, it takes knitting needles to the testicles to get it out of your head.

I hate knitting needles to the testicles, I hate Michael Bolton and I hate the ESPiN machine.

Yeah, its just frustrating to me to hear the same shit over and over and to watch such an obvious double standard be applied to OSU.

Case in point last night, Texas hangs 52 on what was supposed to be a very good ASU team. Do we hear anyone mention lack of speed? I heard Davie say it one time in the first quarter then Herbie of course stands up for the Pac 10 and says UT is just more ready to play the game than ASU. Does this doom the Pac 10 to perpetually be second fiddle to the B12? Does this tarnish USC the way scUM getting beat tarnished OSU in '06?

Nope...just a good game by Texas. Everyone knows the Pac 10 is fast.

Well... in both BCS games we've played-- when we were supposed to be outmatched with Miami/Florida/SEC speed... we've had the fastest single guy on the Field (Drew Carter, Ted Ginn) and neither of them really impacted the game... we're 1-1... now... no one knows what would have happened if Ginn plays the whole game, but, If you go back and think about who had the biggest impact on those games... it wasn't necessarily the "fastest" guys (even for their position- Think Matt Wilhelm). The question is, are the guys we put on the field gonna be "fast enough" to make plays. I mean, neither team is even gonna start their "fastest" tailback in this game... so.. if "speed" were that darned important they probably would.

I think "speed" is an issue in these talking head evaluations the same way it is in the NFL draft because its in some way quantifiable even if by perception... but the bottom line is, if you're a good player, you only need to be "fast enough." It may turn out that Trindon Holliday or Ray Small play a big part in this thing... it also may turn out that the biggest plays are by Matt Flynn or Todd Beockman running with the ball at the right time... but my gut feeling is that Hester and Wells will be the difference-- whether by eating clock and keeping posession or making big runs, and I tend to bet that if they are its gonna be because one group of 300 pounders were better at moving another group of 300 pounders... and... if that doesn't happen, won't matter much how fast (or not) they are.

Stat wise, its been a fairly balanced offensive attack this year. The O is averaging roughly 220 yards per game running and the ball and 230 yards passing.

Now the challenge for the LSU offensive coaching staff is to come up with a plan to rack up 450 yards against your D.

Oh, definitely... but when in doubt, Miles goes power run. And, I have no problem with that at all.

As for the yards... who cares... its about points. There, I think is gonna be a "feeling out" period in this game... and... I think both coaches might try to throw some curves at the beginning... but... in the end, once you have an idea of what you might be able to do... the stategy is going to kick in. If Tress doesn't feel like he can go 80 yards on your D (and he feels like you can't either)... he won't.... he'll try to turn it into a war of attrition... field position, clock management, etc and try to force Miles into getting impatient... without saying that Tressel is the overall better coach... this is where he excels, especially with a lead (of any kind).

Just depends how things go.

This game is gonna be tough, I think, for either team if they get down a couple scores.

I agree with your analysis. One constant about this years Tiger team is that they have been a 2nd half team. In the majority of games it seems like we slept walked through the 1st half. I think the outome will still be in doubt midway through the 4th quarter.

This thread is offended by the bolded part above. You must be careful not to pollute this thread or the thread will wither and die.

Never has the coin toss and who gets the ball to start the 2nd half been more important:osu:

I agree 100%

This is not the NCAA National Track and Field Championships...this is a football game and speed will help but having the fastest players alone is not going to win you any games

Illinois being the exception, OSU has had a similar pattern, especially at the beginning of the year. I'm sure plenty of heads jerked when they saw Akron, 3-2 at the half, and your Tulane game, 10-9, as well. :tongue2:

The part that didn't really show in that respect was that Akron didn't have a single first down that half, and only 3 for that entire game.

People outside of the Big Ten don't get that we were playing with Akron.
We could have named the score.
But, JT won't run the score up on most teams we play.
Tressel is a chess player.
He does what he thinks is best for his team and best for college football. (read... sportsmanship)
When was the last time you saw a college football team take a knee rather than score?

Posted: Fri Dec 28, 2007 5:57 pm Post subject: Fox hires Gators' Meyer to work national title game on TV

Florida coach Urban Meyer will be in New Orleans on
Jan. 7 to work the BCS National Championship Game
between Ohio State and LSU as a broadcaster.

Fox has hired Meyer to work the pregame, halftime
and postgame coverage. He will be joined by Heisman
Trophy winner Eddie George, Chris Rose and Jimmy Johnson.

Meyer led the Gators to their second national title with a 41-14
win against Ohio State last season in Glendale, Ariz.
George rushed for 3,768 yards in his career, second in
Buckeyes' school history.

Makes sense. He's played both recently. We'd better beat Michigan or Eddie will give him shit.

I don't know that Tress was necessarily "playing" with Akron...offensively at least. Defensively it was total domination, but offensively the young Bucks were still searching for an identity (that's what happens when you lose a heisman trophy winning QB, 2 1st round draft pick WR's and a 1,275 yard RB) that didn't fully emerge until the following week in Seattle. Crap weather in the 1st half didn't do TB and company any favors...
