BCS Chances (El Gigante Merge)

So would it be safe to assume then that Tressel & staff know this and have started to formulate a gameplan against ND?
I would gameplan for ND, and then shift gears if that proves to be wrong. I don't think we're going to play oregon. I think the alternative to ND is the ACC champ (VT or FSU).

I think Tressel is perfectly capable of putting together the key components for the game plan to beat ND on the drive from Upper Arlington to 18th Avenue.
heh perhaps, tho he might want to give his players a day or two to practice it

also, I believe the staff is pretty busy with recruiting right now

I don't see why anyone thinks that Notre dame is that good. They have benefited from a VERY cushy schedule. Every "big team" they had on their schedule (except USC) turned out to be very bad this year. EX: Pitt, Tenn, Michigan, Purdue, Washington, and I am sure their are others. Notre Dame has played a WAC, MAC, or Sunbelt type schedule. Mid major teams play 1-2 games against good opponents (USC), and then they play their pathetic conference schedule. Congratulations Notre Dame, you are are a upper echelon mid major team!! You can win your mid major conference, but you can't beat any of the "big teams" on your schedule. They are most like Fresno State, who also by the way, ALMOST beat USC. Sorry I just don't buy the hype. If Tenn, scUM, Pitt, Purdue, or Washington were playing well, Notre Dame would have a losing record. We will see what a genius Wies is next year when some of these teams get better. Fresno State played the same type of schedule Notre Dame did, why don't they get the BCS bid???

I haven't wanted us to play ANYBODY like I want Notre Dame this year...I want it, and I want it NOW!!!!!!!!! Hawk versus that OL? Our O against their "D"? Our DBs, who can actually cover somebody, against Quinn with a rush in his face? BRING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we get to play ND in a BCS game, that would almost make up for this lame ass bowl selection system. Now close your eyes and imagine a championship series where the best teams actually played against each other.

So sick of the ratings/attendance argument

Usually I don't pay much attention to other teams arguments, as everyone's a big homer.

But I got fed up of the Oregon fans, even though I believe they idealistically deserve a bcs berth over notre dame.

However, here's my note i posted on one of their boards. Maybe it'll make sense to them, and they'll quit using that as an arguing point.

Start Thread:

I won't argue the merits of the Ducks deserving a bid over Notre Dame. I believe that we have a BCS ranking system and we should use it. Having said that, however, it does get on my nerves to hear Ducks fans use the 'nielsen rating' arguments to try and prove that more people are interested in watching the Ducks than the Bucks.

<O:p
You say that:
<O:p
"Further supporting our bid to the Fiesta Bowl, the Ducks are known to “travel well” to bowl games, ensuring a full house at the stadium (our 2002 Fiesta Bowl against Colorado attracted 74,118 fans) and filling up surrounding hotels and motels.

Our participation in the Fiesta Bowl also will help the bowl’s TV partner, ABC, achieve its goal of having teams from different regions of the country. When the Ducks appeared in the 2002 Fiesta Bow, hammering Colorado, 38-16, the game drew a TV rating of 11.3. By comparison, Ohio State’s 2004 victory over Kansas State drew an 8.5 rating by Nielsen."
<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

And on and on ad nausem ad infinitum etc.
<O:p</O:p
<O:p
Well, lets see.
<O:p
<O:p
2002 fiesta bowl (your game) tv rating: 11.3<O:p
2003 fiesta bowl (our game) tv rating: 17.23<O:p
<O:p
2002 fiesta bowl (your game) attendance: 74,118<O:p
2003 fiesta bowl (our game) attendance: 77,502
<O:p
<O:p
Point to us in both cases.
<O:p
<O:p
Of course our 2004 rating was a bit lower, noone wanted to watch kansas state in a bowl, not even us! It was a sucky matchup, but that's what happened because chokelahoma fubared in their conference championship game.
<O:p
<O:p
<O:p
In fact, the 2003 fiesta bowl was #4 of the top 100 television programs in 2003, being beat only by the super bowl and academy awards.

"Ohio State's 31-24, double-overtime victory over Miami in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl has been dubbed by many as the greatest championship game in the history of college football. The BCS has had five, and the previous four had not been decided by fewer than seven points in regulation. <O:p

The game marked the largest crowd in Tostitos Fiesta Bowl history when extra seats were not added as in previous national championship years. "<O:p

Not fair? By all accounts, if you listen to those guys, they were playing for the national championship in the 2002 fiesta bowl.

Its additionally not fair to compare a decent bowl matchup (oregon/colorado) with a few story lines, to our 2004 match up.

Kansas state who? The only story line in that bowl was that Chokelahoma choked, so ksu was in a spot for the bcs that in no way did they deserve.

Ofc we didnt have a crazy fan turn out. It'd be like if USF pulled it out and won the Big east this year. Who would want to watch USF vs. whoever they played? You could put the 85 bears in that bowl and noone would tune in.

At any rate, I'm just sick of Oregon fans using the 2004 fiesta bowl as a support to their argument that they travel better than us, and have a bigger national appeal.

How did they not deserve it?

Total Yards
KSU - 519
OU - 398
Passing Yards
KSU - 217
OU - 315
Rushing Yards
KSU - 292
OU - 83

Turnovers
KSU - 0
OU - 2

They physically dominated a very good OU team up front and were able to control the ball very well. Don't knock KSU just because OU couldn't keep up with them.
And if I remember correctly, KSU was pretty highly ranked going into that game.

There is a contest going on in Cowherd land about which team is the least deserving of a BCS bowl. My daughter really wants an Ipod so I put together this entry. I am sure you'll will recognize the tune.
