BCS Chances (El Gigante Merge)

Josh, I think Herbie was dead-on in his comments. How many Buckeyes would travel to Tempe, AGAIN, to watch tOSU play Colorado (should the impossible happen)? Sure, some will go...many will go, compared to other programs. But that number is insignificant compared to the masses that will go should it be a Buckeye/Domer match-up. I think Herbie's comments were well calculated to do exactly what they did - make damn sure the BCS and Fiesta Bowl know that Buckeye Nation will show up en masse for this game.

ANNNNNNNDDDD

Bingo was his name-o

Yeah, and I think the Fiesta people know that already. They'll say the stuff like "We're considering several teams" and "W'ere looking at Auburn and Oregon just as closely as some other teams" but there's one bottom line, and that is that they can put together a matchup in a bowl game that does not decide the national championship (well, except in the eyes of ND fans) that people will be FIGHTING over tickets for...that almost never happens, and you can bet your Aunt Suzie's ass they'll never pass this up.

This is from the latest Mandel column and seems pretty realistic.

To simplify things, I am making one assumption -- that Virginia Tech beats Florida State (which is only slightly more certain than whether the 'Noles will score) ...
If Texas loses: Unless they remain in the BCS top four (not likely), the Longhorns would likely be left out altogether, because the Fiesta is not going to stage a Colorado-Texas rematch, and the Orange would almost certainly use its selection on Notre Dame. My guess:
Rose: USC vs. Penn State Fiesta: Colorado vs. Oregon Sugar: LSU/Georgia vs. West Virginia Orange: Virginia Tech vs. Notre Dame
If USC loses: Believe it or not, the Trojans would still get the Pac-10's automatic berth, winning a three-way tie with UCLA and Oregon because, of all things, the Bruins lost to Arizona. Don't ask. ...
Rose: Texas vs. Penn State Fiesta: USC vs. Ohio State Sugar: LSU/Georgia vs. West Virginia Orange: Virginia Tech vs. Notre Dame
If USC and Texas lose and LSU beats Georgia: If Virginia Tech wasn't playing a four-loss team, it might have had a chance to move ahead of LSU for No. 2. ...
Rose: Penn State vs. LSU Fiesta: USC vs. Colorado Sugar: West Virginia vs. Notre Dame Orange: Virginia Tech vs. Texas
If USC and Texas lose and Georgia beats LSU: The Orange Bowl would get the top two picks. ...
Rose: Penn State vs. Virginia Tech Fiesta: USC vs. Colorado Sugar: Georgia vs. West Virginia Orange: Notre Dame vs. Texas
Basically as long as Texas doesn't lose we're golden.

Why wouldn't we get in if only Texas lost? He has Oregon over us in that case, but us over Oregon if USC loses.

I don't disagree with that. OSU v Colorado isn't a big enough game to send us back to the Fiesta Bowl for the 3rd time in 4 years. ND or USC would be huge games for us. Unless the Orange bowl would rather have OSU than PSU it is the Fiesta vs ND or USC or we fall to the Capital One Bowl IMHO.

The Notre Dame/OSU match-up is orgasmic, but OSU/USC this year would be IN-FUCKING-CREDIBLE! Either way, the stands are gonna be painted scarlet.

GO LONGHORNS!!!
