Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

Urban Cryer or Urban Liar

An in-depth interview with Urban Meyer.

http://florida.scout.com/2/606969.html

Can anyone verify whether the literature below exists or is it something that
Meyer made up? Thanks.

Q. What about there is some book or something that you showed the players that had two pages of Florida and 60-some pages of Ohio State? Is that true?
COACH MEYER: There is a lot of stuff out there. (Smiling.) The pregame speech is not going to be hard.

Q. Do coaches invent things to motivate?
COACH MEYER: Yeah, I'm sure they do. If you have to invent it if it is reality that -- we just got to -- we are the underdog and we kind of like that role. Do coaches invent those type of thing? Some do. I don't think we do. We do what we do, though.

Reputation for speed on line when Florida meets OSU

by Stewart Mandel
link

"When people talk about the speed in the Southeastern Conference, they're talking about the speed on the defensive front," said Florida co-defensive coordinator Charlie Strong. "They're talking about a defensive end like Jarvis Moss, a guy who we can drop into pass coverage."

The speed issue as described here really doesn't concern me. What does concern is that the "thinness" and speed of the defensive players allows them to shoot the gap and get in the backfield, resulting in a QB sack or possibly tackling the RB for a loss. Florida's special teams are also very good at shooting the gap, resulting in blocked punts and field goals.

Of course, florida's d-line gives up a lot of weight to our o-line. And I believe we can run at them successfully and wear them out. The special teams aspect still concerns me.

BCS title game could be a bag of tricksBy BEN WALKER, AP National Writer
January 6, 2007

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- The hook-and-ladder was great. The Statue of Liberty was tremendous. The flanker passes, onside kicks and fake field goal were beautiful.
Just wondering: Are there any trick plays left this bowl season?
Sure, says Florida. Plenty. Wide receiver Jemalle Cornelius has one in mind -- Special Trips Right Cougar Reverse Pass Left. He even has someone in mind to make that end-around toss against No. 1 Ohio State in the BCS national championship game Monday night.

Ok,this is coming from a florida fan- Anyone,I repeat, anyone who trash talks wether they are for ohio state or florida, doesn't know anything about sports....period!How many times have we seen or heard about a top ranked team getting beat by a unranked team?the answer,A LOT.It happened three times alone this weekend in ncaa basketball.

I usually go onto an opposing teams forum to talk to fans on their opinions and overall respect most of them because even if they think that their team is going to win they actually think that way from a unbiased opinion and more to the fact of what they have seen from both teams.

Well, now that I've gotten that out of the way, lol. The thing that thing that worries me the most in this game is troy smiths scramble ability. The same kind of ability that was the key factor for texas winning over usc last year.Sure Tim Tebow(who I think is way better than leak) is like that too,but he isn't going to playing as much as Troy Smith.I think Florida has more of a chance in Chris leak plays only a little bit in this game but I doubt that will happen. The "whole speed" issue-more than one team has that but I have to say that I haven't seen any team that utilizes their speed like florida does.I think this game is going to be more of a defensive game and no,I seriously doubt it's going to be a blowout in either direction.

I know that someone on this board complained that they thought some florida players were talking about getting disrespected and that ohio state players were respectful.I don't think they were talking about the players, but rather the so called "sports analysts".Come to think of it,their track record is pretty pitiful when it comes to calling big games.Very few thought florida was going to beat ucla last year in basketball or miami heat against dallas and look what happened. The funny thing about sports is that a lot of fans usually "cry" about the most unimportant and unfluentual aspects of the game that had no meaning to who won or loss.Bottom line,if ohio state wins-I will give them props for being the better team this year.

Hi , we appreciate your stopping by. From what i see in your post you expect us to win a close game because we have Troy smith. Thats what we think too.
I also think Fla doesnt have enough Db's with speed to cover all of our receivers. Your opinion?

bestbuckeye-hmmm well they are both fast but untill we see them pitted against each other there is no way to tell for certain.Since this is the first meeting between the two teams,I'm looking foward to seeing how these two good teams handle each other. That's one of the reasons why I can't wait till monday. I just wish they were playing earlier in the day.
As far as the line goes-let me clarify, for that game espn coverage analysts were favoring ucla due to their history of a good basketball history and that seemed to be a major factor their decision."woody" was the only that day to favor the gators.

Both??? Ginn, Gonzo, Robiskie, Small, Hall = both? You need more DB's :wink2:

I can tell you are excited about this game as we all are too. We think that Fla is a good team, and that it will be a good game. Our players remember when we were the dogs in 2002. Some were on that team or redshirted so they know what it is like to overlook the dog. That is one thing that is in our favor. The team knows what can happen if you are not prepared mentally and physically.
We know you will be ready and so will we. In fact I wish they were playing NOW. :)

again, your memory is selective. analysts and sportswriters were equally split on who they thought would win. the line represents that fact. also, if you're assuming that espn represents the overall perception, then don't claim that florida is the underdog for monday's game. so far, the majority of the espin analysts are favoring florida. though the line doesn't always represent the overall belief of who will win, it's the best correlate.

I haven't heard any analysts disrespecting Florida, and I haven't heard any analysts disrespecting OSU. Depending on the analyst, there are certainly a few shots thrown at either team from time to time, but nothing out of the ordinary. OSU is generally the favorite, but I have not heard a single comment (from a reputable source anyway) that would be stoking UF's fire.

Perhaps I'm not seeing how Florida is getting so "disrespected", but perhaps I'm also looking through Scarlet-and-Grey-Colored lenses. In fact, it's really looking like Corso is going to pick UF for the game which, incidentally, would be a bad thing for UF and a great thing for tOSU... :osu:
