Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

This is good stuff. You have to read this.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...72707.column?coll=orl-sports-headlines-gators

Here's how that column four years ago began:

"The desert will be overrun with Ohio State fans. It will look like a Buckeyes home game. Miami fans will be outnumbered at least 5 to 1. And you know what? It won't matter. By the time the Fiesta Bowl is over, the scarlet on the shirts of the tens of thousands of Ohio State fans will match the color on their faces. The famous "Script Ohio'' will look more like a "Scrapped Ohio.'' The traditional dotting of the "i'' will be replaced by the burning of the game tape. Mark my words: The Buckeyes' players will get hit in the mouth so hard and so often, they'll think Woody Hayes still is coach."

Blah, blah, blah.

I haven't heard of an analyst disrepecting either team as well.I mentioned this earlier because someone on this board posted hearing a florida player complain about it.Since I haven't heard any analyst and don't know the poster personally or the player,I am not sure exactly how credible this info is

"To say the Buckeyes are "loaded with talent and power" is a bit of a reach. Smith is a good, not great, quarter back, who will be playing wide receiver in the NFL. Yeah, he won the Heisman, but so what!?! That trophy has become a team award. I mean, believe me, I know... Danny won it in 1996...He was a great college QB, but he wasn't the best player on that champiionship team...much less the country. "

Governor's Wager
Friday, January 5, 2007

Governor Charlie Crist placed a friendly wager on next Monday's college football championship game. Crist placed a call to Ohio Governor-elect Tim Strickland to place a bet on the big matchup. Crist will send Strickland some Florida Citrus if the Buckeyes win. Strickland will send Crist some Ohio wine and chocolates that look like buckeyes if the Gators win. Also the governor from the state of the losing team will have to fly the flag of the winning team's state at the governor's residence for a day.

If I can find the details of this, I'd love to roadtrip over to Tallahasee and get this picture.

I've seen a bunch of posts here about impatience to get the game here and done with. I'm not in any hurry, myself. See, most UF students have stayed home or gone to AZ for the game, so campus is much less silly right now than it normally is. If the NC keeps gators off campus, I wish we were in the NC every week.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

GLENDALE, Ariz. ? The sprinter speed comes naturally, as Percy Harvin learned the hard way. Touted as the fastest thing on two legs, the Florida freshman receiver keeps his blazing 40-yard dash time (4.24 seconds) in perspective. There is, after all, always someone a little faster.

From that article......

Starks and Holmes have a "somewhat friendly" wager on the national championship game, which Starks predicted will go Florida?s way.

"Troy Smith likes to crack under pressure," he said, smiling. "Oops, did I say that? "
:slappy: Troy sure has cracked under pressure when he plays in the big games. What ever shall we do, were screwed!:wink2:

A NEED FOR SPEED

Buckeyes say they're overlooked when it comes to quickness

By Marla Ridenour

Beacon Journal sportswriter

GLENDALE, ARIZ. - Ted Ginn Jr. remembers going to national high school track meets and hearing the trash talk that runners from Ohio stood no chance.
``It was all about California and Texas and Florida,'' Ohio State's junior flanker recalled. ``Ohio and New York guys came in and we ran the shop sometimes.''

EXTREME TASKMASTER

Urban Meyer learned harsh but effective coaching methods in Ohio

By Stephanie Storm

Beacon Journal sportswriter

Urban Meyer doesn't make many good first impressions.
Ask just about anyone coached by the Ohio native, who will lead his Florida Gators into Monday's BCS National Championship Game, and you're likely to get an earful of horror stories.

GATOR FEVER

Rabid N.E. Ohio fans will gather as usual at restaurant to cheer for Florida, not OSU

By George M. Thomas

Beacon Journal sportswriter

INDEPENDENCE - The last place you'd expect to find a gator is in Northeast Ohio. But one group of rascally reptiles -- University of Florida football fans -- infests a popular eatery in the area.

FRESH THREAT

OSU defense knows it must contain Florida freshman star Percy Harvin

By George M. Thomas

Beacon Journal sportswriter

GLENDALE, ARIZ - Much like a recent Heisman Trophy winner, University of Florida freshman phenom Percy Harvin is learning to leave controversy and drama behind.
A top recruit (Ohio State even expressed interest) coming out of Virginia, Harvin was tagged with the label of troublemaker. He allegedly hit football game officials in both his junior and senior seasons. The Virginia High School League banned him from all school competition after a brawl on the basketball court, according to reports.

TEN FOR A TRIUMPH

By Sheldon Ocker

Ten reasons Ohio State will win Monday's BCS National Championship Game:
1. TALENT SHOULD TRIUMPH -- Ohio State has so many gifted players, the Buckeyes probably could field two representative Division 1-A teams.
By contrast, Florida possesses a top-shelf defense, but has struggled when it has the ball.

Better late than not ready

Ohio State held a late practice Saturday to simulate the 8:30 p.m. kickoff. The Buckeyes practiced at Pinnacle High School and finished shortly before 9 p.m. ?We?re trying to emulate our circadian clocks or whatever,? Head Coach Jim Tressel said. Several former Ohio State players, including Shawn Springs and Heisman Trophy running back Eddie George, watched practice. Between the group of players and alumni who were allowed in, Tressel laughed at the idea the practice was closed.
