Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

Do you think that Herbie might actually believe that Florida is faster than us? I do, that is his opinion. I doubt that he'd go out of his way to talk up another school just to defend himself from looking like a biased OSU fan. He was obviously wrong with his preseason national title picks, and some other notables along the way.......perhaps he's wrong with this too. Personally I think that he is.
Faster doesn't necessarily mean better. LSU is not nearly as good as they are fast. Morgan Trent is 'faster' than many of our corners, but clearly not better.

Agreed. If Florida is the quicker team on the field, which no one really knows, does it really matter that much. Our defense keeps everything in front of them so I doubt that every play will be a footrace. I really don't believe the speed is that big of a deal as everyone is making out to be. The SEC speed from Arkansas only put up 14 points against Wisonsin and Tennessee only 10. I'm sure Monday will prove that the speed advantage, if any, will not make much of a difference.

The whole speed thing is bogus. Everybody is fast these days.

It's just the talking heads talking out of their asses. Making up story lines.

From what little I have seen of OSU they are just as fast as the Gators.

This game will come down to who has the biggest will to win.

Herbie is in a "no win" situation when it comes to things concerning tOSU.
He is either going to be a homer or he is going to lose credibilty which I think has happened because he is going to go out of his way to not look like a homer.
The problem here is that if he is in a "no win" situation then he should at least stay true to OSU. I'd rather be a homer than lose my credibilty.

Well, I guess it could it could be worse. He could be a homer and lose all credibilty.......AKA Lou Holtz

Is it just me or does it seem like the Florida fans are the ones making such a big deal of Ohio State. Very few commentators or analysts have said the Gators don't stand a chance, yet that is all you hear from their fans. They continue to claim not one person in or around football is giving them a chance to win, but I have heard little to none of that, even on here. I just think they like to make it like only they think they are going to win, and they want to "prove everyone wrong." Just my opinion.

Herbie and ESPN Commentators

Listen,

ESPN is a joke, Remember in 2002, Nobody gave us any love as far as how well we did as a Team... Trev Alberts basically attacked Ohio State every week and said hey, these guys are no good, and on top of that, all the hype surrounding #13 at the time (I don't like to say his name!)... And on top of that, I've heard ESPN reporters and even Fox Reporters, as well as our own Kirk Herbstreit, Say how "Fast" the SEC is, I tell you what, I watch alot of College Football Video, and I have studied Florida this past month, and guess what, I'm here to tell you it's this simple, if we contain Tim Tebow and Chris Leak, we will Blow Florida out!
I don't care what anyone says, The SEC is nowhere near as fast as Herbie, and Rece Davis, and all these idiots in the media say that the conference is...

Also, Herbie is not a homer, nor do I think he will ever be... He is nowhere near as bad as Holtz!

2/3 of every "expert" I've seen give a prediction are taking UF. The vegas line is around 7 if I'm not mistaken. Not one single media memeber has started "the greatest ever" bullshit with OSU. No OSU players are printing invitations to a victory party.

In other words, the Gator players and fans are reaching BIG TIME on the no respect thing.

I think much of the reaction comes from the scUM game and the fall out of the discussion of scUM being the "true #2". I think they've jumped all over Herbie and his "campaigning" for a rematch. I think the coverage has been fairly balanced, especially with tOSU being a clear favorite no matter who the opponent would have been.

Exactly. I personally the thought the coverage would have been more slanted towards tOSU. I think the analysts and experts, if you want to call them that, just search for match-ups that could go in UF's favor. By main reason for believing we will win is just from watching their previous games. Leak has yet to prove himself, and they have gotten extremely lucky in certain situations. i.e. blocking to field goals to beat south carolina, and the muffed punt by Fish in the SEC championship game. I hope we got that out of our system against Michigan with the snaps.

There is a clear dichotomy between what is written and what is said on air, over the radio or TV.

The only time that there was a clear majority of "expert" picks for the Buckeyes in the BCS Championship Game was early after all the bowls were set, on December 15th CFN had all except Clucko the chicken going with OSU as their pick. Yahoo did not run a pick 'em for the college bowls, but one of their regualr writers (via AP) Ralph Russo early on said Ohio State 31 - Florida 17. Meanwhile one of Yahoo's regular pick 'em experts Terry Bowden, hedged on who would win the game, and did so early. ESPN in the party of Bruce Feldman did in fact pick Ohio State to win, on December 29th.

It is certainly not true however that the talking heads follow that trend.
