THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Tired of Hollywood celebrities and pro athletes diverting attention from their biggest games, college football administrators have taken back the sidelines. Ohio State and some of its former players are feeling the squeeze. OSU and Florida are limited to five discretionary sideline passes each for the national championship game Monday night.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

GLENDALE, Ariz. ? Sad circumstances will force Florida safety Reggie Nelson to play with a heavy heart Monday. Nelson?s mother, Mary Lakes, died Dec. 21 after a long bout with breast cancer and Nelson has sidestepped reporters all week. The junior was a rare no-show at media day in University of Phoenix Stadium yesterday.

?06 team steamrolled; ?02 rode roller coaster
Path the Buckeyes travel to the top will matter little as long as another national title awaits

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

There are different ways to scale the same college football mountain. You can be the 2002 Ohio State team and reach the summit after weathering a blizzard in various ice caves, nearly running out of supplies and almost falling into a few thousand-foot crevices. Or you can be the 2006 OSU team and have a helicopter drop you off at the top.

Coaches share spirit, little else in common

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State?s Jim Tressel and Florida?s Urban Meyer don?t dress alike, talk alike or coach alike. But besides being Ohio natives, they do have at least one other major trait in common, perhaps the difference-making reason they have coached their teams into the 2006 Bowl Championship Series title game. "They are sticklers for detail, boy," former OSU coach Earle Bruce said.

Leaders put different faces on teams

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Judging the books of Troy Smith and Chris Leak by their covers, the two quarterbacks may seem similar: Both are seniors, about the same size and with strong arms. Both are considered among the best quarterbacks in their schools? histories. But the stories of their careers could hardly be more different.

FOUR GOING?

Enjoy OSU playmakers while you can

Saturday, January 06, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Glendale, Ariz. -- Anthony Gonzalez was walking off the field after a loss when he realized Ohio State's offense would be just fine.
"I felt like we figured it out," Gonzalez said, remembering a 24-17 defeat at Purdue in the 10th game of the 2004 season. "I thought, We'll start to roll now.' "

Buckeyes like looks of new stadium

Modern facility is part of a building boom in what once was a farming town.

GLENDALE, Ariz. ? Ohio State won three of the four Fiesta Bowls played from 2003-06, the first earning the Buckeyes a national championship. But to keep their winning streak in the desert alive ? and claim their second national title in five years ? they'll have to prevail in a different Phoenix-area venue.

FYI: The retractable roof at University of Phoenix Stadium will be closed for Monday's game, bowl officials said. Why? Well, the desert is chilly at night. The expected high temperature Monday in Phoenix is 69, with temperatures dropping into the 40s.

.... Pansies.... Open the roof and let's play FOOTBALL!

And here I was thinking to myself, "Herbie's a cool guy" when all of a sudden... "the difference in this game will be the speed of Florida."

I think I vomitted in my mouth.

He said the same shit during the Rose Bowl. Paraphrased it was "This game shows the difference in speed between the Pac10 and the B10."

I don't want to start another Herbie war thread but his incessant attempts to not look like a B10/OSU homer have gone waaayyy too far in the other direction. He's been on my shit list since that picture with him and the scUM band in '03.

Do you think that Herbie might actually believe that Florida is faster than us? I do, that is his opinion. I doubt that he'd go out of his way to talk up another school just to defend himself from looking like a biased OSU fan. He was obviously wrong with his preseason national title picks, and some other notables along the way.......perhaps he's wrong with this too. Personally I think that he is.
