Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

Really? No one near us?

Sorry, can't go along with that. LSU at least matches us with talent and speed.

The thing that the LSU, and the SEC for that matter, lacked this year was not talent, it was not speed, it wasn't offense, defense or special teams specifically; it was execution. Execution was not great throughout much of college football this year for one reason or another. I don't mean that teams executed poorly all the time. But you saw the 1st half of the Sugar Bowl, right? If LSU executed well against NoD in the 1st half the final score would have been LESS lopsided because the Bayou Bengals would have been playing their 3rd string for the most of the 3rd quarter and all of the
4th.

Boise State showed what a team that executes can do against superior talent just this week. So many so-called experts said they were surprised by Boise State's speed. Baloney. Boise State was no where near as fast as Oklahoma as a group. But if people blow their assignments, they have way too much ground to make up in too short a time. If you stick to your assignments, you don't have to outrun anybody.

It is in this facet of the game that Florida will be "shocked". They will have faced no one that executes with the precision of the Buckeye offense. Ohio State executes football plays, and they will execute the Gators.

Excellent points DBB. Ohio State is as fundamentally sound of a football team as you'll ever see, especially offensively. From what I have seen out of Florida is that they are a team that relies on their athleticism to carry them through bad plays. It works against most teams that are inferior talent wise, but if you match up against a team that has athletes that are fundamentally sound, the gap widens. Florida is a very good football team, but they are not the kind of team that lines up and beats the hell out of you. They will rely on big plays on both sides of the ball, something that the Buckeyes haven't given up many of.

Everyone talks about how this game reminds them of the Miami-OSU game of 2002. Actually, this game reminds me of the 1995 Nebraska vs. Florida title game. Nebraska was a fundamentally sound team with a heisman QB, the same goes for OSU. Obviously they were more of an option team, but I just get the vibe of that team when I look at this title game. Oh yeah, did I happen to mention that game was also the Fiesta bowl? :wink2:

I think this game will be a lot tougher than expected. The pressure is on the Buckeyes. In the previous two #1 vs. #2 games we played, the other team had as much pressure, if not more. I feel like Texas had all the pressure on them in that game this year, where we came in with a #1 ranking, but not the pressure that comes with it. And during The Game, both teams felt the pressure of NEEDED this win. The game was make or break as far as a great season is concerned for both of those teams. Now we come to Florida. Florida backs into the National Championship game that nobody is expecting them to win, and Florida fans won't be pissed off if they lose. There is very little pressure on Florida to win, yet the Buckeyes are expected to win. Honestly, as far as atmosphere and where the pressure lies, this game reminds me a lot of the Iowa game. Except this isn't Iowa, this is a top 5 team. I think the Buckeyes will handle the pressure, but I think Florida is going to play their best game of the year. The Bosie State/Oklahoma game made me think a lot about how underdogs can win big games. I think this will be our toughest game of the year, and I also think that this will be the first time that we are tied or behind in the 4th quarter. I think Troy steps up, makes some big plays, and leads the Buckeyes to a game winning drive late in the 4th quarter. This will be our toughest game of the year.

Florida 17

I'm guessing you haven't had much interaction with fans of the mighty SEC.

How is the atmosphere similar? That was a road game in a hostile environment... This is OSU's personal BCS bowl. Besides there is a huge OSU fanbase in AZ, and OSU fans have long since been setting up accomdations for the title game.

Your guess is as good as mine, but Florida's offense has been inconsistent in big games, unlike OSU's.
The Bosie State/Oklahoma game made me think a lot about how underdogs can win big games.
OU didn't take Boise seriously... Boise was far more focused and executed better. As for UF not getting any respect, their defenders sure are doing a lot of talking about "southern speed" to fit into the "focused underdog like Boise St." stereotype.

You could give a lot of valid arguments for why Florida might play us tough or even beat us but pressure? Sorry but are you serious? One of the most known traits of this team is how it handles pressure. Shit, you got the best big game coach in america and the best big game QB. Especially when you consider the opposing QB is Chris Leak.

does anyone know why the roof was closed for the fiesta bowl and if it will be open for the national championship game?
It was closed to contain Jimmy Johnson's ego and prevent part of it from leaking into the atmosphere, which is what happened at his previous stops in Miami and Dallas, where his ego poisoned the fan base with self righteousness, false entitlement, and superior smugness.

Ok, that was GPA worthy.

I think everyone talks about their trick plays hurting us... but I was wondering how many of you think a trick play will be the reason they LOSE the game? IMO I think they'll out due themselves and turn it over... I'll take a offense who can do what they want without the trick plays over a offense who is inconsistent but can once in a while hit it big with a trick play.. almost here!!! GO BUCKS...
