Alabama Crimson Tide (official thread of Football, Fake Championships and Banjo)

So Gcashwell, how pissed will 'bama fans be if Ohio State makes the playoffs with a 31 pt. loss to Iowa?

Really pissed?
Really, really pissed?
Really, really, really pissed?

Hopefully Phyllis from Mulga can muddle through her outrage!

Or like you realistically mentioned, 'bama isn't up to snuff this year and may be better off not making the playoffs.

>

btw, do folk in Alabama really root for Duke and Golden State? Seems totally nonsensical.

>

Repeating so Gcashwell doesn't have to, the Buckeyes lost to Iowa 55-24 !!! So how unimpressive does the Tide have to be if they miss out on the playoffs to the Buckeyes who lost to Iowa 55-24? Didn't the committee notice how bad the Tide beat Mercer? ok, maybe that's the problem ie the fact that Mercer was on their schedule to begin with right before Auburn.

Mentioned in the playoff thread the Monsters of the Midway 'bama has sceduled next year:

Arkansas State ~ UL Lafayette ~ The Citadel ... oh yea, Louisville at Orlando which is basically a home game for Alabama. Hopefully they can recover from these heavyweights enough to get ready for the following week's games.

Indeed, playing The Citadel the week before Auburn may be a bridge too far!

I kind of hope it happens (Bama left out) not that I believe OSU deserves to be in the playoff (Iowa) but I believe it may be the emphasis needed to get us to an 8 team playoff.
There doesn't need to be an 8 team playoff. All that will happen is butt hurt fans of the #9 team will want in. If OSU wanted the CFP so badly than they should've beaten Iowa, or at least showed up. We made our bed, now we can enjoy the Fiesta or Cotton Bowl.

You must have misread my post as I said nothing about OSU deserving to get in. I do believe especially this year that any of the top 8 could win the playoff this year. In the basketball playoffs you have 60+ teams in the playoff and number 67 or whatever the number that doesn't get in will still bitch. The number of teams should be limited to who a committee reasonably feels could win the playoff. I don't know the exact number but I sure know it isn't stuck at four.

The way I see it we beat Wisconsin we get in, wins outweigh losses which is why a 2 loss Stanford team was ranked ahead of us in 2015 .

Disagree, the Iowa loss is weighing heavy on the minds of the CFP committee. Especially since Iowa isn't any good, and OSU got blown out. Its not just a loss, but a BAD loss, not sure if 2 loss Stanford was blown out by an unranked team...

I think a 6 team playoff is the perfect spot.
I'm fine with 4, because if you're good enough and rated high enough to start the season, not to mention if you win your conference you're set. Bama, and OSU haven't had problems making the final 4, not has Clemson, FSU or Oregon before. The best 4 teams find their ways into the playoff, those who don't have seriously questions of why they didn't make

If Ohio State wins and doesn’t get in, the chairman is going to have to go back on what he said this week about 5-8 being extremely close and a conference championship adding a lot of value to Ohio State’s resume.

They’d also have to leave the Big Ten Champ out for the second year in a row, as well as put Bama in the final four with a team that literally just beat them to make it from the same conference.

That’s a lot of pills to swallow. On the other hand, all they’d have to justify for Ohio State is claiming that they’re playing better than Bama at the end of the season and have a conference championship. Yes, Iowa is a bad loss, but Michigan State beat a team that is currently #9 and Ohio State slaughtered them immediately following it. Not beat soundly... absolutely massacred.

The big ten has looked pretty bad two years in a row. A loss to a big ten foe is a bad loss.

The sec has three of the top five teams. They are pretty strong at the top. A win against LSU is a pretty good win too. They have been playing well since they recovered from their injuries.

All that said, I don’t think OSU or Bama truly deserve it. OSU hasn’t had the consistency, and Bama hasn’t dealt with injury. That’s why I won’t be upset if Bama doesn’t get in.

It’s very easy to make many reasonable arguments for it against both teams.

The Big Ten looked pretty bad to everyone in 2014 as well and we know how that turned out at the end of the season.

I mean, if we want to talk about Iowa...

...Then you can’t call LSU a pretty good win.

But yeah, I won’t throw a fit if we’re left out. Told my wife I’d much rather have the Bucks win a conference championship than make the playoff this year. I stand by that still.
