It's Autism Speaks -- that's been an ongoing and really frustrating source. I've managed to have it killed for PCs, but not for mobile devices. I need to figure out a way to have Firefox or Chrome spoof mobile platforms so I can find these ads and get the relevant network data through Firebug.

Unless we can tell what network is loading the ad, I'm not sure USAT is going to be able to help. Going to shoot off an email to them, but I have low expectations insofar as I can't give them anything to work with (beyond "Autism Speaks").
You run a great site Clarity, I appreciate the effort you put forth. I hope you don't take me posting these ads as complaints. I just want them brought to your attention. They are truly a minimal nuisance that don't change my BP experience. But I know they are not what you want in here. I wish I knew more how to pinpoint them to you to help your investigations out.

Oh not at all, I appreciate the help tracking these down. If you detect any frustration it's just that I've got one (Autism Speaks) that has been a known and on-going problem that's been difficult to find and fully squash.

There's an auto-play audio 300x250 floating around. I've captured the code and sent it to USAToday. Should be gone soon.

So the computer that reloads BP every 10 minutes is where I sleep, and I leave the speakers on just high enough that I can hear any audio ads. Tonight, the ad audio also made the dogs bark. Both of them. Nothing like a 3am wake-up call from two GSDs because Lysol, Belpre Furniture, and Move Free Ultra think they're clever. Shit-eaters.

At least I'll be up to date on my fashion advice. Ad on the right started auto playing.

I've been having a bunch of issues on my iPhone with the forums lately, and I have a feeling it has something to do with a FarmVille ad pop up notification that I've been seeing a lot just before the site freezes Safari completely, and sometimes crashes Safari before I can close it out.

Hm. Sorry, Mike. I'll hit the site with mine and see what I can turn up. I think it's time to drop all but one remnant partner. With our traffic dipping, the quality of some of the tertiary providers has dropped significantly.

I didn't even think the system style app notification pop ups were "allowed" as ads, which is what initially caught my attention. The ad "behaves" in that when I click cancel/no thanks it goes away, but does sometimes pop up a second time. However, it always seems that the site/Safari freezes completely shortly after I close the ad.

They're not. It's a bad ad, and the companies behind games like FarmVille, CandyCrush, and the like are notoriously bad about using often illegal and always amoral tactics to spread their shit. They hide them as extra code inside good ads, making it almost impossible to track. It's infuriating.

What I'll have to sort out is what ad is always showing when the notification happens. That will be the ad it's piggybacking. Then I'll have to figure out how to get Firebug code for that ad, which will be difficult if it's limited to mobile loads only. All of this, of course, on purpose -- they go to great lengths to make them difficult to trace and remove. They're really no better than malicious phishers and malware peddlers.

We only allow standard sized ads. We allow auto-play video, but not audio (unless the user interacts with the ad). We only allow expansion or other behavior outside the normal ad frame with user interaction. We expressly prohibit all pop-ups, pop-unders, or notification ads. We have that set with each of our ad partners, unfortunately companies like King.com can't seem to act ethically.

I haven't experienced the ad yet on my iOS devices, but I'll keep looking.

And now I get a Rox? ad with sound followed immediately by a Sombre? (apparently a type of hair product) ad, and then on this page while typing this I got a starkist tuna ad followed immediately by the same Sombre ad. All were in the same position as the Osteo Biflex.

I'm getting auto playing ads on just about every page I visit now....

Edit: Cleared my cache and it has stopped.
