AAU Kicks Out Nebraska

US Highway 77 links Nebraska with Kansas and South Dakota (turns into 75 there).

I'm not sure what that matters? Interstate 5 and 84 meet up in Portland, but that doesn't make it the geographic center of Oregon. Might be the center by population, but you didn't make that distinction.

Not to mention, most folk don't give a rat's azz what folk that don't actually live in Nebraska have to say about Nebraska.

I've known that for over ten years. The only thing my in-laws in Grand Island and Axtell wanted to know (from their chemist outsider) was if I had a recipe for crystal meth.

Synthesizing crystal meth doesn't take a great deal of chemical knowledge. It wasn't a bunch of Ph.D. chemists going to the pharmacy that caused them to put Benadryl behind the counter.

edit: It wasn't me either.

As opposed to most folk not giving a rat's ass about what people who live in Nebraska have to say about Nebraska? :paranoid:

All I know, is, you are the state next to the state that has Wall Drug.

See? We're known for something. Besides, without Nebraska, what else would you folks have to fly over on your way to SanFran, or Miami, or wherever you people go? Next time you fly past, look down. I'll be sittin' on my tractor gnawin' on my wad o' chaw. I'll be sure to wave as you go on by.

Anyway, I'm pretty much over the AAU thing. There's no getting around this - it sucks for the University of Nebraska. Academia is prestige-based, and this detracts from UNL's prestige, no doubt. But, the AAU is moving to a format that devalues the work this university primarily does, and it's important work. So you either acquiesce to the demands of some outside body or to the needs of your state, and of course your state wins out. So it goes.
