97.1 The Fan (official thread)

The idea of affiliating with this moron to the extent of calling him "our idiot" is unimaginable to me. It's akin to someone referring to maggots living within one's suppurating wound as "my maggots."

I hope his kids don't starve too, but my approach would be to introduce his wife to a good divorce attorney and then to "It's Just Lunch."

I do not understand the vitriol people have towards him just because he was not form Ohio. The guy's job was to talk about sports teams local to the market he was in. Yes, he often strayed off topic. The best part about the common man and torg was that they did stray off topic. They had great chemistry together, and the banter was why I listened. They didn't take themselves too seriously, and I respect them for how they ran their show.

All of you guys bitch about how he isn't from Ohio. Why does that matter? Why is it so bad that he adopts the teams of the town he lives in? Even if he is pretending, if he is entertaining, who cares? There are plenty of people to listen to on 97.1 that are more connected to OSU and will have better insight to offer. That wasn't him. He never pretended to be anyone other that a dope with strong opinions and a stronger sense of self-deprecating humor.

It seems like all some of you want is 8 hours of programming that is all the same thing over and over. You think the torg is an idiot? He understands that he has to offer something different than the noon to 3 slot and the 6 to whatever slot. That is what made them so good.

Also, I am 2 glasses of bourbon into my night. I always get fired up from bourbon.

Nice try, NastiNati...or should I say...THE TORG!

He wasn't funny. If he were, he wouldn't be "the funny Guy" on SPORTS talk radio.

I don't care where they're from or who they root for. Just don't pretend. It's fake, and it's obvious. He's a hack. I'm happy that for the seven times a year I get caught up listening to 97.1, I won't be listening to a fake ass buckeye calling out other fake ass buckeyes.

There is vitriol because:

A) He fucking sucked

B) He wasn't funny

C) It wasn't that he isn't a Buckeye fan. He was playing a part, but he took it to a point where within the part he was playing, he would criticize the university and team AS A FAN. It was disingenuous.

D) He wasn't funny.

Pretty simple if you ask me. Most people don't care if you aren't a homer, just don't go so over the top to be a homer that it's clearly just a play on the fanbase.

Love to see some competition for the ESPN franchise in the Columbus market! Looks like Chris Moore & Brian Jones (?) are the current afternoon drive-time show, I wonder if they'd put the Torg up against the Common Man?

I actually think Ricordati has been a lot better since Torgo left, maybe less negative on OSU sports and not so consciously an outsider. He's actually a pretty competent as a goofball radio guy. But T-Bone just bores me to death, he seems like a nice guy but brings very little to the show. And when Common Man is out, T-Bone + Krenzel makes for a serious snooze-fest.

Bobby Carpenter is great as a #3 man to liven things up, but still a work in progress as a host: he's got a great attitude and is a heck of a lot more fun to listen to than Krenzel though.

Don't care for Torg (or really anything on WBNS Radio, outside of Ohio State games/coach's shows), but glad Columbus will be getting more competition when 95.5-FM turns into CBS Sports Radio (according to his Tweet).

Columbus should have more sports radio options.

1230 is really the best radio during the day if you can get it. The Dan Patrick Show is has easily the most reasonable sports discussion.

I have no interest in listening to the Torg except for morbid curiosity to see if he's still the same old know-nothing goofball he always was. His schtick isn't entertaining to me.

Yes, Dan Patrick is good on 1230, but Central Ohio needs a morning sports show (at least until 9 a.m. ET). "Mike and Mike", to me, is very milktoast, or conservative, corporate, I don't know, choose an adjective.

I can't listen to Dana Jacobson because she's a ScUMmer on CBS Sports Radio (95.5) and don't listen to FOX Sports' morning show. Maybe NBC Sports Radio, which will launch soon in Columbus

I'd give Torg a shot on 95.5, because I'd try to listen to local sports shows and don't really care for Rothman/Bishop or the afternoon show on WBNS.

They have Gottlieb as the 12-3 show. So much for that.

If you had SiriusXM, Scott Ferrell isn't that bad at night (10-2 a.m. on CBS Sports). He used to be on Sirius, along with local NYC shows prior to that.

It beats whatever 1460/97.1 has at that time slot, because ESPN Radio has to be very "PC".

Look how many ex-ESPiNers went to CBS Sports Radio and NBC Sports Radio. You'd be surprised (a ton of them).
