97.1 The Fan (official thread)

Yes, Dan Patrick is good on 1230, but Central Ohio needs a morning sports show (at least until 9 a.m. ET). "Mike and Mike", to me, is very milktoast, or conservative, corporate, I don't know, choose an adjective.

I can't listen to Dana Jacobson because she's a ScUMmer on CBS Sports Radio (95.5) and don't listen to FOX Sports' morning show. Maybe NBC Sports Radio, which will launch soon in Columbus

I'd give Torg a shot on 95.5, because I'd try to listen to local sports shows and don't really care for Rothman/Bishop or the afternoon show on WBNS.

wait so currently Columbus has:

1230am (is that fox? i know they have dan patrick, etc....)
95.5fm (cbs sports radio)
97.1fm (espn sports radio)

and now possibly nbc sports radio? what channel would that be on?

1230 is Fox. We also get 850, which is ESPN Cleveland. It's a terrible sports network. Both of those AM stations really only come in clear during the day.

Yes, 1230 AM doesn't have any local shows though. Having some sense of local is important (to an extent). Even local sports score updates work.

NBC Sports Radio is trying to get into the market. The radio programming just launched April 1, so I'd give it time, since they only have two Ohio stations.

Competition (or choices) in sports radio is a good thing. I'd hope it'd help WBNS (or the Dispatch Group) get better or stay at the same level.

Looks like 95.5 has John Feinstein on in one of the AM slots, I don't know much about him on the radio but he's a good sports writer.

listened to his show today and actually liked it.

95.5 will have local programming from the rumors starting about Torg?

1230 has no local programming correct?

97.1 has bishop & rothman/ common man 'n co. / the Buckeye show

so currently there are no local sports shows airing before noon

Sorry to ask, but is there any way a moderator can merge this thread (or create a new one) with something on the Columbus media/radio/television?

Common Man and Torg is no longer a show and I think people would be somewhat vocal on the Columbus radio/TV scene?

Just a thought. Again, sorry to ask.

I'm just going to change the title of this thread, since I don't know of any other thread about local radio/tv etc.

If you know of one, let me know and I can still do a merge.

I am going to move this thread out of "Buckeye Football" but, I'm not quite sure where to put it.... Open Discussion for now...

The thread has actually been pretty specifically about Columbus sports radio: that focus could get pretty watered down if we have to mix in any potential discussion of local TV news and print/Dispatch media too.

I don't know if he still lives in Central Ohio, but anyone think Hooley would try to get back into the Columbus radio market and leave the Cleveland station?

It would be dumb, because I think people tuned in to listen to Spielman (not Hooley), but I also don't know if he lives in Cleveland.

The CBS Sports station is going to have some local shows once we get closer to football season.

Trust me, I'm not a fan of Hooley (at all), but was just wondering. His frickin co-workers didn't even like him at WBNS.

Is it just me?????

Or is sports radio little kids arguing, witch hunts, lame attempts at second guessing everything, or a weak attempt to make news out of nothing?

Probably just me.....

That's what makes it so fantastic!
You haven't lived till one of the players on your favorite pro sports team accuses the management of racism. Expect the next two months to be filled with ABSOLUTELY ELECTRIC calls to the show.

And I'll tell you something else, If you don't have the balls to sit in your car during your lunch hour dialing and re-dialing Colin Cowherd so you can call him a shithead on air - I mean...be a man for goodness sake.

I normally try not to listen to 97.1 The Fan, outside of Ohio State games and coaches' shows, but was in someone else's car Monday and noticed something:

Dave Biddle is on the Fan now?

Strange the Fan is now soliciting employees from Bucknuts now.

They've been talking to Steve Helwagen on The Fan for years, surely Bill Kurelic has been on there a hundred times too.

Anybody listening to 95.5 The Game yet? Their "CBS Sports Radio" jingle makes it feel really fresh, and listening to Dana Jacobsen on the way to work is a real treat. Also, the sound quality is fantastic. Watch out, WBNS and ESPN!
