97.1 The Fan (official thread)

They've been talking to Steve Helwagen on The Fan for years, surely Bill Kurelic has been on there a hundred times too.

Dave Biddle was actually hosting the show on The Fan  (but I don't listen to The Fan because it seems like the station is lacking money or something).

I can't listen to Dana Jacobson without thinking she's a ScUMmer. Tiki doesn't bring much.

At least from a national standpoint, for some reason, that FOX Sports Radio show seems to be gaining steam (at least from other people's opinions).

You won't really know what 95.5-FM will actually be until closer to August (Football Season) when they start having local shows.

On CBS Sports Radio this morning I heard them discussing the Tiger scenario today on the way to the gym and talking about how it wouldn't be news if it wasn't Tiger. I thought to myself no it wouldn't be news if the media didn't make such a big ass deal of it even days later.....

Some national shows were spending three hours on the subject...two days later (Monday).

The obvious reason is Tiger is involved and he creates reaction (calls/emails/tweets).

Looks like the local shows will be starting next week on CBS Sports Radio in Columbus (95.5 FM).

I thought it would be closer to football season, but I guess you could use the summer to try to build an audience.

Does anyone actually read stories off of Bleacher Report or SB Nation or stuff like that? I find the writing/stories very misinformed and the people who write the stories seem like they don't have writing experience.

For example, one story I read weeks ago said Indiana was a whisker away from playing in a major bowl in 2012. What kind of major bowl was that?

It just seems like these are just nonsense stories.

These sites are free-to-publish that pay the authors for generating clicks. SB Nation was started by Jim Bankoff, former AOL exec that helped get Engadget and TMZ off the ground.

Same business model. Instead of tech gossip or celebrity gossip, it's sports gossip.

I guess they don't give a damn if the information is completely incorrect, as long as it generates clicks then. A story about the Big Ten mentioned Taylor Martinez as the Big Ten's best QB in 2012 and didn't mention Braxton Miller.

You can say Martinez was the best, but at least mention Miller (and I'd say Miller was the best).

Oh well, it works for ESPN (not caring about facts).

Why is that a shock to you?

After the first three days of the local show on CBS Sports Radio (95.5) in Columbus, the show is kind of slow.

But I'm going to guess that all the sports stations in Columbus (NBC Sports is coming soon) will have their line-ups set and running by the start of August camp.

CBS Sports Radio can't move Jim Rome (12-3 pm) and I don't think they'll touch Gottlieb (afternoon drive) either, so their options for local programming is limited).
