5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

Thank you BB73.

Its tough to see good fans take their medicine like this. I was embarassed too when AJ sold his jersey and had to sit against MSU and Carolina.
But proud of the way he responded and proud at how UGA administration handled it in a similar fashion as the OSU higher up's.

This too will pass folks. It'll sting for awhile - but that diploma hanging up on the wall means a helluva lot more than the score at the end of the games next season.

I was 21 and 22 once too and believe me, I did some stupid stuff that I regret too. :shake:
The diploma they wont get because they are off to the NFL.

Ahhh the NCAA, where pimping your child to universities is A-OK! But selling the things that you've earned, is a big no no. LOLOLOL :slappy::slappy:

NCAA is quickly becoming the laughing stock of the sports world.

Do you have a written statement or a recording in which Cam's dad tells him he's looking for money before letting Cam sign?

You can be suspicious, should be suspicious, but without evidence there is no case.

The most shameful thing is the selling of the championship rings and pants... I hope Tressel benches them for the bowl game and I never see them play again. There is more pride in a freaking Iowa State locker room right now.

Agree with Duane Long to some extent. I'd almost rather not have to deal with this and let these players just move on to the NFL.

We have plenty of talent.

We have a young QB in Braxton Miller who is VERY GOOD and is supposedly a great leader.

We have Rod Smith, Jamaal Berry, Jordan Hall, Carlos Hyde. Herron was consistent and good but there is some real superstar potential in that stable of running backs.

Posey was good but wasn't great this year.

The only one that would truly bother me would be Mike Adams.

This is all hypothetical but why you are breaking a rule is much more important to the fan base than it is to the NCAA. The NCAA doesn't give a censored if you sold your gold pants to help starving kids in Africa or if you sold it to give you more money to go to the movies. Fans, on the other hand, care a lot why you did something. For me, at least, if some of these players sold some of their stuff because their families needed the money, I have a hard time faulting them. If I were in that situation, I would do the same thing 100 times out of 100 to help my family and I would tell the NCAA to go censored themselves. The rationale for selling their stuff doesn't excuse them from the punishment either, but rationale has to matter. at least a little bit.

So is this why Gene Smith emphsized the University dropping the ball in the press conference?

Is the appeal expecting only a 1 game reduction? (rhetorical question)

I'm not too happy about that. I think GS is throwing our compliance office under the bus on this one--whether it's to appease and justify the ncaa's decision to let them play in the Sugar Bowl or in preparation of appealing the five games. What more can the compliance staff do? They apparently DID address the issue. I'm assuming the athletes all signed their acknowledgement of complying with all NCAA rules. Are these compliance people supposed to watch over these kids 24/7.

At some point, you just have to accept that no amount of "compliance counseling" is going to be enough should some student-athletes choose to do the wrong thing. These guys chose to do the wrong thing.

Like I said in an earlier post: I would give them one of two options. Enter the draft or redshirt the 2011 season. Coming back midway through the season would not be an option if it were up to me.
