5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

Good. Not sure what makes this situation different than AJ Green and he only got 4 games suspension.

They got the same 4 games (30% of a season), plus 1 game was added because they should have been clearly aware of the rules in November, 2009 (apparently the time when that specific compliance issue was stressed), and they didn't come clean at that time (this stuff occurred prior to Nov '09).

Oh geez. He said that the only reason they are playing in the Sugar Bowl is because they are from the Big Ten. Any SEC player, like Ryan Mallet, would be suspended from the Bowl Game, no question. Its because the Big Ten is the NCAA's sacred cow.

I thought the SEC (securities and exchange commission) was.

Btw, the SEC homepage says [FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica]The mission of the Securities and Exchange Commission is to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.

Yep, the NCAA knows all about that. or any conference for that matter...

Lennon said a game was added on to the usual four-game penalty "because these student-athletes did not immediately disclose the violations when presented with the appropriate rules education."

makes it sound like they added an extra game on because they tried to hide it.

It's understandable that folks are ticked off - but we all need to remember that we don't bash Buckeyes on this site.

Please keep that in mind before posting.

And BP policy is that no tweets from players, current or former, should be posted.

So is this why Gene Smith emphsized the University dropping the ball in the press conference?

Is the appeal expecting only a 1 game reduction? (rhetorical question)

Thank you BB73.

Its tough to see good fans take their medicine like this. I was embarassed too when AJ sold his jersey and had to sit against MSU and Carolina.
But proud of the way he responded and proud at how UGA administration handled it in a similar fashion as the OSU higher up's.

This too will pass folks. It'll sting for awhile - but that diploma hanging up on the wall means a helluva lot more than the score at the end of the games next season.

I was 21 and 22 once too and believe me, I did some stupid stuff that I regret too. :shake:

Ahhh the NCAA, where pimping your child to universities is A-OK! But selling the things that you've earned, is a big no no. LOLOLOL :slappy::slappy:

NCAA is quickly becoming the laughing stock of the sports world.

yes, you -- that is, the ncaa -- can tell them what to do. this is not a legal matter. you do understand the difference, don't you? the ncaa has every right to determine what the players can and cannot do with their jerseys, rings, etc. don't blame the ncaa for players abusing the rules. pryor, posey, and the rest knew full well that it was against the rules to sell their items.

Furthermore, the NCAA isn't doing this stuff unilaterally.

They are doing what is decided by the Institutions they represent. They are enforcing the rules that College Presidents, administrators, coaches, etc. decide upon.

It wasn't Herbie's fault. If the players had behaved we wouldn't be having this conversation. I think Herbie did what he should have done.
As far as mentioning the names, what's the big deal since they were already out? I'm sure that every one of you were hanging onto your chairs and wanting to hear the names.
So, the old "everyone else was doing it" excuse? e!spn is a much larger entity than the cpd or the other blogs speculating. That requires a higher degree of responsibility in reporting this stuff. These are college kids, not pro athletes and Herbie/e!spn were naming names based solely on speculation. That is irresponsible. Report that an investigation is on going...fine. Naming names when there is no proof is amateur hour bullshit and slumming for ratings/hits. The worst thing that can happen in that case is that you name an innocent party, and guess what? That happened. Michael Brewster was drawn into this mess and turns out he's an innocent party. That is unforgivable. Like I said, I hope this finally gets his ass blackballed. I've met Herbie, he's a pleasant guy. But he's also a media shill and crossed the line big time this time. I hope Gene Smith/Jim Tressel treat him as an outsider from this day forward.

So, do you still think Herbie did what he should have done in regards to Mike Brewster?
