2024 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

Is Penn State in if they get their ass kicked by Oregon?
Yes....they'll be like a 10 seed but yes. I don't see the committee penalizing teams that lose championship games too badly, especially when they only have a single loss to another CFP team.

Figure the Big Ten has 4 teams for sure in now - Oregon, Ohio State, Ped State and Indiana.

NoD is in.

UGA, Tennecheat and Texas are in for sure.

I think the ACC is a 1 bid league now. Clemson losing essentially guaranteed that. Duh U is going to drop like a rock.

The Big 12 has been a 1 bid league since early September.

Boise State is in and probably the 4 seed at this point.

So that leaves 1 open spot for the following: Bama, South Carolina, Duh U.

Byes:

Oregon/Ped State winner, UGA/Texas winner, Boise State (if they win their championship game), ACC champion if it's SMU/Big 12 champ if Clemson wins

Home games: Oregon/Ped State loser if it's Oregon, SEC championship loser is Ped State loses to Oregon, NoD, Ohio State and Tennecheat

Away 1st round games: Indiana, ACC winner if Clemson, Big 12 champ, SEC championship loser/Ped State If it loses to Oregon.

This is all a guess about who will host.

If Day can reset and win two games it would be a start. But he needs some “counseling “ right now to get his mind straight.

Penn State is definitely in since a team shouldn't be kicked out b/c they play an extra game.

But the question is that it *Should* effect seeding.

If they lose badly, there is no justification to them being ahead of tOSU with the head to head win.

If Clemson wins the CCG and the auto-bid, 2-loss SMU might still be in.

The ACC has been the most fun conference to watch this season.

I don't think Clemson beats SMU in a fair game, but you include the possibility of ACC refs trying their best to screw the Mustangs.

But after what Florida State said about SMU, I want them to win the conference so bad.

We will see if the committee puts tOSU ahead of Tennessee. They have a loss to Arkansas, an 14-pt loss to UGA, and only 1 win over a top-15 team (Bama), while tOSU handed #3 and #9 their only losses.

It matters because those two will very likely end up as the #8 and #9 seeds, with the #8 getting the home game.

These are projected final seeds after next week, not rankings.
1 - Oregon/Penn State winner or Texas
2 - Texas/UGA winner or Penn St
3 - SMU or Boise St or ASU/ISU winner
4 - Boise St or Arizona St/Iowa St winner or Clemson if UNLV wins

5 - Notre Dame or Oregon
6 - Penn St or Notre Dame or Texas
7 - Texas/UGA loser or Penn St
8 - tOSU or Tennessee

9 - tOSU or Tennessee
10 - Indiana
11 - Arizona St if they win, or Bama/USCe/SMU
12 - Clemson or Iowa St or UNLV if they win, or Bama/USCe/SMU if SMU loses. Boise State could also drop to 12 if SMU and ASU both win

1. So Notre Dame's reward for pounding two service academies, the weak sisters of the ACC, Miami of Ohio, and losing to NIU at home, is to be ranked ahead of Ohio State.
2. If I'm Dan Lenning, I'm playing my #2s in Indy, saving the #1s for a meaningful game.
3. If what I see in the media in any way matches the thinking of the CFP decision-makers, it looks like the pairings are set to eliminate as many Big 10 teams as possible.
4. I'm still pissed about Saturday.
