The offensive line has been pretty good in pass pro but sure I get helping some.
However 2 man routes aren’t exactly ideal either
Yeah I think that’s partly the issue.2 man routes have been common in the offense since Day got here. Fields ran a TON of them in 2019.
It is allowed and I wish Coach Day would incorporate it. Better than a wide receiver sweep on 4th and 1 ....I ashamedly admit I can't remember if this is allowed in CFB. 3rd and 1 anyone?
The Eagles are so good at the 'tush push' that the NFL may ban it
From the 'Bush push' to the 'tush push,' the modified QB sneak has met with success and controversy.www.espn.com
Agreed! And his stubbornness could cost him. I hope it doesn’t, and he wakes up and makes changes like he has in the past. Because it’s plain to see that this offense is best when McCord is slinging the ball and setting up the run with his arm. If instead of another predictable screen, he uses a slant to Egbuka or Fleming across the middle, that would’ve been huge yesterday since the LBs were in attack mode. A play action, to one of those guys across the middle would’ve been a big gain since the LB would’ve already been in the backfield.Days mantra is 50/50 pass run..I’d wish he embrace the pass more.Let Marv and others cook. 3rd long unsustainable.
This 100%. Yesterday I was telling my fellow OSU local cohorts the same thing...I want to run the ball, but we are not built for the run to set up the pass...it is the exact opposite this year, we need to throw the ball early to supplement the run game. I get why Day is being stubborn to this stage of the season, but he needs to stop it if he wants to win a championship. We have incredible WRs, just air it out and get the W.Not trying to oversimplify the offense. But they are not a good running team due to their OL being not very good at run blocking. Day is being stubborn and wanting to prove to his doubters that his team is "tough" and can run the ball when needed. Unfortunately they just can't do that. Imo, he should just say screw it and go back to 2018, and let McCord cook and embrace being 1 dimensional. OSU has the best WR in America and arguably the best WR room in the country. Lean on them. Being predictable and running the ball just to run it, is foolish, imo. Especially when many of the runs are to the edge, and defenses are sniffing that out immediately. The blocking and blocking schemes aren't working in the run game. If the team has to throw 40+ times a game than so be it, they don't have the up front talent to be balanced like Day wants. So play to the offenses strengths. Fans won't like watching the RBs not run much, but use them when needed as changes of pace.
I know we like to laugh at scUM and their old school play calling works. But they know their strengths and don't try and deviate. They want to punch you in the mouth and throw 20 times or so. They know their bread and butter and you can't stop it. I think it's time Day say F it, and let McCord sling it
At this point of this, the offense is what it is. And this can be an elite offense, if you let them play to their strengths of passing the ball. If they have to go back to Haskins year type of offense, then so be it. And if that means most the country calls them soft, then so be it. I rather win the game in November, win the B1G and win an NC passing 40 times a game, and the country’s best player getting the maximum amount of targetsThis 100%.
