Which is the sole reason we aren’t getting off the field.

LJ needs to get it figured out.

On the LJSr thing, we don't know if it's him or the DC or the friction between them and we likely will never know.

Ultimately, there is a head coach who is responsible for ensuring the machine runs properly. When it doesn't it's his job to get it fixed (it's either a people problem or a process problem) so while it's a worthwhile topic to speculate about, in a way it's pointless. If there is a problem anywhere on staff, it's Day's job. He is their direct boss.

Sawyer and JTT have combined for 13 tackles, 1 TFL, and 0 sacks in two games versus not-great competition. I thought those guys could be disrupters, especially JTT. If they can't do more than that against Hartman it could be a long night in South Bend.

Western Kentucky's Austin Reed led the country in passing yards last season, so they'll have plenty of chances to work on pressuring the QB.

Neither of them can bend. They both have good to very good first steps. But they just rush up the field. They can’t get underneath the OT and flatten out on a line to get to the QB.

And I’m unreasonably annoyed by the DE’s bull rushing on 3rd and long. Nobody has any pass rush moves?

Yeah agreed it’s either a spin move or a bull rush.

Wonder how it’d work to see JT and Jack on the interior on 3rd and long with Jackson and Hicks/Milton at end.

Just do something different because we aren’t getting home.

I was interested in looking at the history of Knowles defenses, specifically sacks/turnovers. He was DC at Duke from 2012-2017 and then Okie State 2018-2021. This is a mostly complete set outside of forced fumbles for two years (2014/2015).

Year - Sacks Leader - Team Sacks - Team Turnovers (INT + FF)

Duke
2012: 5 sacks / 25 team sacks / 18 (11 + 7)
2013: 6.5 sacks / 22.5 team sacks / 28 (18 + 10)
2014: 5.5 sacks / 29 team sacks / 11 INT (no FF info)
2015: 2.5 sacks / 16 team sacks / 11 INT (no FF info)
2016: 5.5 sacks / 29 team sacks / 20 (11 + 9)
2017: 5.5 sacks / 28 team sacks / 21 (15 + 6)

Okie State
2018: 10 sacks / 38 sacks / 15 (5 + 10)
2019: 5 sacks / 28 sacks / 20 (12 + 8)
2020: 7.5 sacks / 32 sacks / 23 (6 + 17)
2021: 10.5 sacks / 55 sacks / 21 (9 + 12)

Ohio State
2022: 4.5 sacks / 33 sacks / 21 (11 + 10)

Averages
Individual Sacks: 6.18 sacks
Team Sacks: 30.5 sacks
Turnovers: 19 (slightly lower due to no FF for two years)

There were some outliers in individual performances, Malcolm Rodriguez with 7 FF in 2020, Collin Oliver and Brock Martin combining for 19.5 sacks in 2021, but the team totals are relatively consistent. This mostly just reconfirmed to me what we already knew - his defense's are not necessarily big play producing. He really did cash in on a high note after his 2021 peak performance.

Agree with what people are saying. JT reminds me a little bit of a poor man's Justin Smith, which is a pretty solid player. Sawyer, I don't know what else to call him other than one of the biggest disappointments in recent history.

I might just be me, but it seems like this is where this is headed.
I mean this is now 4 years of similar issues. Also, the other years it’s not exactly brilliance when you have a Bosa for 6 straight years and then Young for another. Seriously for the first 7 years we had a 1st round DE speed rusher.

Then when we don’t have a generational DE everything falls off.

4 years of similar issues and we've got guys who looked painfully average at OSU like Jones, Hamilton and Cooper, who have looked considerably better in the NFL. Reports sound like Harrison is headed that direction as well. Can't be a coincidence at this point.
The coaching rule really left Day with his pants down. He thought that the NCAA would take away the coaching limit and they didn’t. LJsr was supposed to be like an analyst this year. Welp
