Just sayin": The defense really looked much improved. They actually came within 1 inch of getting a shutout. Had IU's field goal been 1 inch to right it wouldn't have ricocheted through. The Ohio State defense would have even looked better had the Ohio State offense had more sustained drives which would have given the IU offense fewer possessions, etc.

Gotta give the D an A grade against Indy. The only weak link was #1. Didn't get much pressure but hard to do against the triple option. In all fairness, Indy's Offense was pathetic.
Most passing plays too they had 6 or 7 blocking 4 because we didnt blitz so what pressure we did get was well earned. I'll take it for the trial run for the 2023 season.

PRESSER BULLETS: RYAN DAY TALKS AREAS OF FOCUS FOR WEEK 2, EFFECTS OF NEW CLOCK RULES, CONTINUED GROWTH AT QUARTERBACK

JIM KNOWLES

  • On the defensive line rotation: "Loved it. Guys stay fresh, we're going to have to rush the passer, and when you're taking a lot of shots in the run game, you've got to stay fresh."
Did Knowles flip on that one? Wasn't it just a couple weeks ago that Larry Johnson wanted to rotate the DL and Knowles to play the best 4 most of the time, etc.

one thing I’ll say is this: how many times did we hear Schiano or whoever the bell else say “we didn’t prepare for that.”

I get he has nothing to do with this team but in what world could we have realistically expected and prepares for triple option within conference play? IU has no recent history of it.

They didn’t need to get gashed for a half to try something new. They just stuck to assignment and wrecked. I finally found some nice defensive film breakdown which was refreshing after an exhausting 72 hours of coverage centralized around discussing offensive struggle.

Also was good to hear Tyliek earn more interior snaps than anyone.

The main thing going for us is that the DL has better depth so even with coach Johnson rotating we are rotating better players. There’s a few that shouldn’t have been playing for OSU while the games in doubt. Now our entire two deep is really able to contribute.
For sure. You have JT, Sawyer, Curry and Jackson that can all play at a high level at DE, then Hall, Hamilton, Tyleik, McKenzie and Kanu at DT and ditto for those guys. I know it was IU and they'll have to prove it against better competition (Week 4 will be the true test against a very good ND OL), but you can see the talent of the DL regardless.
