For sure. You have JT, Sawyer, Curry and Jackson that can all play at a high level at DE, then Hall, Hamilton, Tyleik, McKenzie and Kanu at DT and ditto for those guys. I know it was IU and they'll have to prove it against better competition (Week 4 will be the true test against a very good ND OL), but you can see the talent of the DL regardless.

The defense is pretty sold and deep at the LB (Eichenberg, Chambers, Hicks, Simon, Powers, etc.) and DB (Burke, Styles, Procter, Hancock, Martinez, Igbinosun, Ransom, Carter, Brown, etc.) positions too. But yeah, the real test will be against ND. With a new QB and 3 new guys on the OL, Ohio State is really lucky to have ND as the 4th game in lieu of opening the season with them.

Is WKU still a monster offense mid major?

That might be a more interesting test than IU or an FCS school.
Yeah, you can say they are. They return the leading passer in CFB from last year, who also had 336yds 2TDS passing and 1TD rushing against USF in Game 1. Should give the DBs plenty of practice in space

Cover 2: A new ‘Rushmen’ package?

Cover 3: Sonny Styles is a freak

Cover 4: Proctor did a nice job, but can he keep it up?

Cover 5: Please be real… I need this!

Cover 6: Hero Kanu’s first sack!

'A dozen' of OSU defensive players graded as champions, says Knowles | Proctor, Hartford battle at safety

Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles was obviously pleased with his unit's suffocating performance against Indiana in the Buckeyes' 23-3 win in Bloomington on Saturday. Yes, the Hoosiers are limited offensively, but it was still an impressive debut for OSU's 2023 defense. Bucknuts asked Knowles which of his players graded out as champions in the opener, but he declined to delve into specific names.

"Oh, I don't know if I have that list with me," Knowles said, as he looked to longtime OSU SID Jerry Emig for assistance.

"We don't report the list," Emig said.

"Oh, that doesn't go out there?" Knowles asked. "Someone told me when I first got here that was public. That champions got (announced to the media)."

And Knowles is correct. The Buckeyes' champions used to be revealed to the media each week. Apparently there is a new edict in place this season. One reporter stated the champions "should be" named.

Just sayin': Agree, Ohio State should release the list of the "champions"......:mad2:

Very telling example of the difference in culture between Day and Meyer.

One guy was about competition and accountability. Don't like being called out for failing? Stop failing.

The other guy is a Millennial trying to give safe spaces and be everyone's friend.

If my kid is going to summer camp, I want Day to be the counselor.

Sawyer and JTT have combined for 13 tackles, 1 TFL, and 0 sacks in two games versus not-great competition. I thought those guys could be disrupters, especially JTT. If they can't do more than that against Hartman it could be a long night in South Bend.

Western Kentucky's Austin Reed led the country in passing yards last season, so they'll have plenty of chances to work on pressuring the QB.

Might have to start 4 DTs against running teams. JTT bad game from the stands.
He doesn’t provide enough pass rush or get home to the QB. I saw little to no OL penetration, he seemed like just a body out there. So many times I wondered why he didn’t blow up the OT, and he just couldn’t get around an OT who wouldn’t even make the practice squad at OSU(all of these statements can be said about Sawyer too)
