Love what we saw against WKU. Silver Bullets were definitely back. Averaging less than 7 pts a game over three games.

I mean I overreacted to the first quarter but they settled and buckled down which was impressive. Year’s past there was no settling and no buckling. I can eat some crow and say at the very least there’s a different vibe on that side. Now it’s time to answer the question of how they fare against a respectable offensive line and respectable skill players.

The first quarter showed legit reasons for concern. The defense didn’t start looking great until the opponent became one dimensional because Day’s offense exploded.

They might be a lot better this year but we won’t know until we see how they do against a legit team when the defense has to respect the run and the pass all game.

Hopefully the good side of Day’s pattern wins out and the OSU offense can keep getting the explosive plays and quick 2-3 score leads that make the opposing offense play one handed.

If that doesn’t happen I fear we’ll see the bad side of the Day pattern.

Well, WKU had a good QB and respectable skill position players. OL? Not so much. So I agree we haven't faced a complete offense and that is coming next week, so we don't have to wait long.

But at least we aren't looking vulnerable to bad opponents. Most teams struggle on defense early, the good ones adjust after seeing what the offense is doing. That's the key.

Fortunately we practice against the only team that is any good at both everyday huh?

Saw this on 11W and seriously laughed out loud :slappy::

Angel on Knowles's shoulder: "You know, it's 3rd and long and JT is getting decent pressure even if not sacking Hartman. Maybe you should rush 3, drop 8, and just get comfortably off the field...."

Devil on Knowles's shoulder: "You know what would be fuckin rad right now? Blitzing 8. Ransom and Proctor will TOTALLY be fine in single coverage."

By the Numbers: 9 things you need to know through the first quarter of college football's 2023 season

OHIO STATE’S IMPROVED PASS RUSH

J.T. Tuimoloau

Ohio State’s defense is much improved from last season, and nowhere is that more apparent than on the edge. J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer have both taken a step forward in that department, even if it hasn’t yet shown up on the stat sheet in the form of sacks. Tuimoloau has a pass rush win percentage of 23.7 through three games, and Sawyer is right behind him at 22.6. Compare that to last year where those numbers were 9.3 and 12.8, respectively.

Both former five-star recruits in the class of 2021, Tuimoloau was the top-ranked defensive lineman and No. 2 overall prospect in the country, while Sawyer was the nation’s No. 6 overall prospect and No. 4 defensive lineman.
