2022 College Football Polls

A few of these things are shockingly dumb.

LSU as a top 10 team is a laugh. There is no situation where any sec team aside from the top 3 should be above Penn state after what they did in auburn that only Georgia has replicated. Not lsu, not ole piss. I guess they wanted to keep the rebels up there but couldn’t have them above lsu. Clear sec losses are wins favoritism.

Clemson over ttun, is absurd. Not only the rankings, but how they stated that the top 3 were really close and implied a huge drop off. They are right you can put the top 3 in any order, but it’s really top 4. That doesn’t include Clemson. Clemson looks like shit week in and week out. They keep barely scraping bye. Whereas watching these games I don’t see anything that makes me think OSU is better than ttun (aside from recruiting rankings). I think ttun might have a better defense (they finish tackles).

We need to stop dismissing it as "it'll work itself out". It works itself into multiple SEC teams in the playoffs. It works itself into better rankings for SEC teams. They've tricked us into thinking it doesn't matter. It does.

Yep that's exactly how they positioned it. Saying "THE FIRST ONE DOESNT MATTER" is stupid. The first one absolutely sets the tone.

It's going to be very hard to avoid 2 SEC teams in the playoff unless both TCU and Clemson remain undefeated

and EVEN THEN they are liable to put a 1 loss UGA or Tennessee in over TCU

LSU #10 is a absolute joke. The only reason they are that high is for insurance that they can push them into the playoff with 2 losses if they happen to beat Bama and win out. They lost to fucking Florida State and got absolutely BLOWN OUT by Tennessee AT HOME. You see pundits saying Oregon shouldnt touch the playoff because they got blown out by Georgia in a virtual home game for UGA. But LSU getting absolutely destroyed AT HOME by Tennessee is all good and forgotten because SEC!

They are pretty much blatantly ignoring LSUs loss to Florida State. Circling back to the "first loss doesn't really count for SEC teams" logic that we see every year.

LSU's only pop out moment really is beating on a clearly over ranked Ole Miss team.

The 3 games before that.

They nearly lost to a bad Auburn team. Auburn threw a INT in LSU territory with like 2 minutes left when they were driving to maybe win the game.

They gave up 35 points to Florida's mediocre offense

Got blown out without competition at home by Tennessee.

The first one should be the last one, at the end of the season. At that point, the entire body of work is looked at without biases from what they thought last week.

Of course, we know why that doesn't happen. If anything, they'll probably start doing them earlier in the season. It makes for easy programming and discussion.

There would still be biases even if there was only one poll at the end of the season.

The biases really get started with the early season AP & Coaches Polls though. People can claim "THOSE HAVE NO EFFECT ON THE CFP POLL AT ALL!" All they want, but there certainly is some influence, those polls set the narrative for the season until the CFP Poll comes out.

There should be no polls period until like 6/7. This would eliminate SOME preseason biases that we get every year. Especially those constantly over valued teams in the first few weeks being used as a boost for other teams who beat them.

Florida is a prime example of that. They beat a Utah team at home week 1 who is liable to lose a game like that and got WAY over ranked after that. This directly led to Kentucky getting overhyped which led to Ole Miss getting way over hyped.

Another example of why it matters. The same comment about how it'll work itself out applies to why Ole Miss was ranked so high. It's so they can prop up LSU.......so they can prop up Bama. We gotta stop ignoring the overranking of SEC teams early.....this is exactly what it leads to.

Yep.

And then Ole Miss barely drops when they lose to Bama "THEY ARE REALLY A ELITE TEAM THEY JUST RAN INTO JUGGERNAUTS!"

Hell LSU will probably only drop like 3 or 4 spots if they lose to Bama taking their 3rd loss. They can then be propped as the BEST 3 LOSS TEAM! at the end of the season.

The old SEC IS A GAUNTLET! IT HAS THE BEST 1 2 and 3 LOSS TEAMS! spinning to get 2 SEC teams into the playoff in the end.

It's been that way since the first AP and Coaches polls were created, and they handed out "national championships" for decades based solely on them.

I'm glad they're going to expand the playoff. The more the title can be decided on the field, and not in a conference room, the better.

Georgia winning out is really the best case scenario for possibly not having 2 SEC teams in.

I think Georgia is getting in with 1 loss, whether that be to Tennessee or to whoever in the SEC title game.

Tennessee IMO is not going to be afforded the same benefit of the doubt treatment that Bama and UGA have gotten.
