While I realize this is way over-simplified, the basic premise of a 3-4 defense is having big, strong DLinemen - its crucial for all 3 to be, but particularly at NT - who can occupy a lot of space, as well as all 5 of the OLinemen. This frees up the LBs to run free and make plays - having 4 LBS who are disciplined, can run, and are sure tacklers is also required. If the Oline is allowed to get to the second level and put blocks on the LBs, even the best 3-4 defense can be gashed by a poor-to-average RB.

Knowing this, and knowing what the current talent level is at ttun, I would say that switching to a 3-4 would be a tremendous idea!
So, maybe they haven't recruited a true DT in several years now... at least they have slow linebackers.

Speaking of on brand

Someone makes a fairly good point for DFBIA but immediately gets corrected by the Harbaugh ministry of propaganda

Once again confusing "he was once a DC" with being a sure "good" thing. Jean-Mary's last 2 USF defenses he coordinated were not good. Ranking 74th in yards allowed in 2019 and 104th in yards allowed in 2018.

You just proved their point! 104th in 2018 to 74th in 2019? That’s about 30% improvement in just 1 year! Imagine how much he could do in several years! That’s ELITE.

Sure, sure, sure. 10 days before NSD, they suddenly found a diamond-in-the-rough the no other school has noticed. It’s definitely that and definitely not desperation for any sort of warm body to throw out there.
Are you telling me Dudek might have been totally full of shit and they didn’t actually have a plan?

I guess it’s possible they did have a plan and just fucked it up royally.

Actually, I’m going to assume it’s a little of both. Terrible plan that they completely botched the execution of.

Garland, Texas, outside of Dallas. Nobody else recruits that area, so TTUN is the only team to look at him.
