2021 CFB Playoff Discussion

Man if I trusted the committee, I’d actually be rooting like hell for Bama to beat Georgia. Logically they see each other again in a 1-4 showdown in potentially another physical slugfest while Ohio State either gets Oregon or OU on the other side depending on how things shake out. Would be the first time in awhile where you’d actually want either a 2 seed or a 3 seed. Of course I don’t trust the committee whatsoever so they definitely would do some shit like slot Georgia at 3 despite not winning their conference.
This is 100% what would happen.

Buckeyes still have a potential problem if Bama, Oklahoma, and Oregon win out. There’s a possibility that those 3 and 1-loss Georgia could be ranked 1-4, ahead of 1-loss tOSU. It’s not likely, but it is possible that the old head-to-head result could end up being a problem.
That would put a 1 loss non conference winner GA over a 1 loss conference champ OSU and that won’t happen.

IMO up to 12 teams still have a chance at one of those 4 spots.

Win out and we are no worse than #3. But the Bama/Georgia game gets real interesting.

If Bama wins Georgia drops to 2 or 3. In either case we would get them in the semis and only one spot remains open.

However, if Georgia wins, two loss Bama drops out of the top 5. That leaves two spots open. We could play Oregon, Cinci, or Oklahoma. Or if enough upsets happen it could be Wake Forest or even a rematch vs. MSU. Even Baylor and Okie St enter the picture. Or God forbid the Domers.

I don’t see how both MSU and OSU could get in. Assuming OSU wins out, I don’t think MSU has a realistic path to the CFP as a one loss non conference champ.

Let's see, 35,000 seat stadium, been to a New Years Day bowl twice, lost both, TV ratings suck except when playing Notre Dame or Ohio State. Yeah, sure, win out and you'll get in cause TV loves nothing more than a team that doesn't draw dick. Apologies to Major League for the stolen line.

In the juggalos favor, I think they'd draw bigly this year for the sole reason of being the novelty first G5 team in. Hell, every pathetic G5 fan that whines about the unfairness of "the cartel" and how they'd build the resources to compete with Bama if they only had a path to the championship with which to recruit is going to be on their juggalo bandwagon. Now, give America a couple years of the Cincinnatis of the world getting in and getting fisted by Bama or Ohio State, and I think any desire to watch them will quickly dissipate.

What's hilarious is the juggalos think they're going to start getting treated like the SEC! champ once they're in the B12 husk.

If Sparty stump fucks everyone else on the rest of their schedule, loses a nail biter to Ohio State, who then goes out and stump fucks the West champ, and Sparty gets some help around the country, they have a path.

Any two of Bama or Oregon picking up a second loss or the juggalos, Okie or UGA picking up a loss would create a path for Sparty.

I agree that it SHOULDN'T happen. But whether it will is a different story. The committee has shown that they have zero fucks to give about what makes sense. In 2014 I Think it was TCU (but it might have been Baylor) at #3. Then they beat up on someone (I forget who) and dropped to #6. Maybe they should have already been behind undefeated Florida State, and maybe we can argue that Ohio State's win over Wisconsin justified jumping over TCU, but why did they fall behind Baylor. (Insert whatever stupid excuse here - no one cares.)

My point is that the committee doesn't have to make sense. They'll do what they want and then figure out how to justify it later. As someone mentioned on here already, Alabama very well could be the first 2-loss team in the playoff this year (if they lose to Georgia). And they could get in over any 1-loss team.

I have no doubt that the committee will do whatever they can to get an all-SEC championship. If Alabama beats Georgia and they both end with 1 loss, they won't face each other in the first round.
I wonder what needs to happen to have Ohio State & Sparty meet in the national championship?

That’s business 101. Figure out what you want, then fiddle with the spreadsheet until you get that result.

1) Georgia
2) Alabama
3) Michigan State
4) Oregon
5) Ohio State
6) Cincinnati
7) Michigan
8) Oklahoma
9) Wake Forest
10) Notre Dame

EDIT: Formatting
Six seems more realistic than two to me for Cincinnati. Haven’t seen Oregon play since I watched them shit the bed against Stanford, but based on that, I’d probably drop them to ten and move 5 through 10 up a spot. That, and maybe drop Alabama down to 5/6.
