2017 tOSU Offense Discussion

And there is this. On paper we should be better, but you don't know until you actually see it. I am only saying I feel a hell of a lot more optimistic heading into this year with Wilson/Day than I did with Beck/Warriner.

Think of it this way... has anyone just showed up here since hiring of Day and Wilson to say, 'Glad he's not ours anymore. Good luck with that...'

Laugh if you want... and for the record, some dumbass showing up and making comments doesn't form my initial opinion of coaches, but there's no denying the correlations last go around.

Kevin Wilson is one of the top three offensive minds I've seen in college football over the last 15 or so years. The other two being Chip Kelly and Tom Herman. Art Briles should probably be thrown in there, as well. I'd add Mike Leach if he ever had a run game.

I'll say this, if Kevin Wilson can lead an offense that wins Jason White a Heisman trophy, I'm not too worried about JT Barrett.

Agreed. Now it comes down to Day un-fucking two years of Beck.

That is my only concern. Given his track record, I think there is a good chance of un-fucking.

Bucknuts Morning 5 Podcast saying Bowen emerging as starter at RG. Interesting.

Very interesting. Good example of recruiting tackles that can slide down to guard, Bowen and Jordan were both considered certain to play tackle coming in. While I think both may slide back out after Jones/Prince graduate, it appears they are 1 of the most talented 5 OL and will get action sooner that way. In any event, we are going to have a massive OL.

Massive indeed. And I am more than ok with Bowen at OG for '17. Just get the best 5 on the field baby. And steamroll.

What will be VERY interesting is what happens in garbage time. I assume you see some guys getting looks at both OG and OT. That will give a glimpse into the staffs view of '18 options. Assuming Prince and Bowen both return you have them plus Jordan and Pridgeon as seasoned OT prospects yes?

With so many teams playing even 4 man fronts, the days of smaller guards and larger tackles are over. Have been over for a while, so I am not surprised at the moves on the Oline. The hogs are better suited for G now and the mobile guys need to play the edge.

With the Spread offense becoming so popular I'm surprised more offenisea have gone smaller and more athletic across the O line for better endurance against faster and more athletic DL. Either way, I trust the coaches will play the best 5

How the Buckeyes' offense plans to get its groove back
Adam Rittenberg
ESPN Staff Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State offensive staff meeting room is a giant dry-erase board.

The boards cover all four walls, allowing coaches to write, erase and rewrite diagrams, categories of plays, practice scripts, daily schedules and lists. Other than the top 20 offensive players (spoiler: J.T. Barrett is No. 1), few items have much of a life span.

A solitary sign hangs at the back of the room: ENERGY + CREATIVITY = PRODUCTION.

On a recent afternoon, head coach Urban Meyer sits below the sign, outstretched legs resting on a chair. In front of Meyer, Ryan Day, Ohio State's new co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, holds a remote and a laser pointer, reviewing plays from the day's practice on the big screen. To Day's left sits Kevin Wilson, the Buckeyes' new offensive coordinator, scribbling notes with a red pen.

Meyer, Wilson and Day are the troika charged with getting Ohio State's offense on track after a stunning derailment in last year's College Football Playoff semifinal. The Buckeyes' 31-0 loss to Clemson marked their first shutout since 1993 and the first of Meyer's coaching career. Meyer immediately promised changes and -- after coordinators Ed Warinner and Tim Beck departed for other jobs -- made them with the staff.

As a new season dawns Thursday night at Indiana (8 ET, ESPN and the ESPN App), the offense is eager to show the results, too, will be different.

"That's not the battle cry," Meyer says of the Clemson loss. "We had some things we had to get right. But that should never happen, and it should never happen again."

Cont'd ...
