Let's hope this is mere formality and not an indication that Geno really didn't have a solid plan in place...

I was just going to post something about Jent. Tony White said on the radio yesterday evening that Chris might take the job as a caretaker for one year. I do not know if I would like that. I think if he takes a job, if it is offered, it should not be as a caretaker. Chris has HC experience in the NBA plus there is that connection with Lebron. He knows Ohio and most of the country. Do not know his reputation as a recruiter and do not know how much he helped Matta when going after recruits. When he came back from Sacramento and assumed his role that he had left with Ohio State, I had always thought that he might be a HC in waiting. While he probably is not my first choice, we could do a hell of a lot worse. I have mixed emotions if this becomes a reality.

hard to fuckup hiring Urban Meyer... have to check with @ORD_Buckeye but didn't he fire a rather successful Hockey coach... and the baseball hire well... its been up and down.

The hockey thing was weird. After neglecting the program for the first years of his tenure and letting Markell run it into the ground, he finally hired a new coach and then turned around and fired him right as the program was showing signs of life. I have no inside info, but on the hockey boards, there were rumors that parents got involved and demanded the firing. So GS might have been on firm ground. In any event, the new guy is doing great, and there's talk of the new arena, so GS--after a rough start--seems to be doing OK by hockey.

I've never held the bowl ban against him as I thought it was coming no matter what we self-imposed. My biggest problem was that debacle of a press conference followed by the twisting back and forth on JT when everyone knew how it was going to end and where the Trustees (inc Wexner) stood on JT's ultimate fate. Gee certainly gets an assist on screwing that pooch.

I love Chris Jent to the moon and back as a coach (he was one of my favorite players during my formative years of watching OSU hoops), but thinking as an AD, he's not going to sell tickets. Fans are going to see this as a possible continuation of the same and are going to take a "wait and see" approach when buying tickets.

That would just delay the rebuilding another year, especially in the recruiting process.

What recruit is going to want to commit to a program with a "caretaker" coach?

They need to get a permanent replacement in

Not sure where this should be posted, but the memory of the infamous Ohio State-Minnesota basketball riot came up on another board in relation to whether Ohio State would be interested in Musselman's son. I, at this time, just want to take a moment to say, fuck Dave Winfield. I only wish I'd known what he'd done as a kid, so I could have taken great pleasure in that giant shit sandwich that Steinbrenner fed Mr. May.

Things turned out alright the last time Smith gave an existing assistant the "caretaker" role for a year.

He also missed that 12' rebound jumper against ttun in that Elite 8 game in Lexington back in the day:wink:

There is not going to be a big demand for tickets this year so it really depends on how he recruits and starts to rebuild the program. If he does get the job, one of the criteria must be that he cleans house and brings in his own people. As I said, not my first choice but…. Also, if GS has really told some of the current players that they will have a HC by the end of the week it would have to be Jent just because of the bureaucracy involved in the hire.
