2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

They got in for having one loss, on the road in their rivalry game, after having been ranked #1 part of the season. And if you think the Buckeyes getting destroyed by Clemson after getting that bid last year didn't work against Ohio State this year, you're kidding yourself. We weren't getting the benefit of the doubt again.

We lost 2 games this year: one by 15 points at home and another by 31 to a five-loss team. Stop acting like we got screwed. We didn't.
Well by the committees own spoken logic we did get screwed.

Agree with all of this. The committee was going to have Clemson at #1 and thought back to them curb-stomping us in the playoffs last year. Their desire to avoid that from happening again (whether right or wrong) was the nail in our coffin.

I'll add that narrowly winning last night didn't help. That game should have been 41-10, yet it was 27-21. Had it been the former, I wonder if we would've gotten the nod.

Wisconsin and Alabama don't belong...
Arguably UCF... they didn't really play anyone, but that's somewhat out of their control as a Mid Major.
And in an ideal situation neither USC nor Ohio State belong either imo... which is why I didn't care if we got passed up for somebody with a better resume. Dodging OOC opponents with FCS and getting boatraced by the 1 legit team they played all year in the last game is a bad resume even in this company.
But it was pretty obvious since last week that CFP wanted them when they kept MissSt ranked and somehow found a way to laughably put FresnoSt at 25.

So who would your two at-large teams be? As for UCF, let the G5 have their shot. In almost all years, they'd be playing on the road against the #1 seed. Now if one starts talking G5 nonsense about 12 or 16 teams that let all G5 champs in, I say fuck that entirely. Nobody is looking to watch some 8-4 Troy team travel to Columbus or Tuscaloosa for a first round game.

No to mention the committee took some flak for putting us in last year after missing the conference championship and we burned them by letting all that criticism ring especially true by making it a huge stinker.

I don't think the committee will be doing any favors for us for a while. The next time we get the nod will be when it is indisputable (conf champs and 0 to 1 loss max).

Bama got in this year for pretty much the same reason we got in last year. Which, given our awful performance, did us no favors this year.

Bama got in because they are Bama and they can hang their hat on our bad loss to Iowa. Bama is not us from last year, Bama beat nobody worth a dang this year, last year we lost once in a fluke manner and got unlucky bc the rest of the way we didn't control our own destiny, Bama had their chance to make the SEC game the week prior to it and got destroyed against the only team they played that was really any good.

I don't buy that Bama is really that much like us last year, to me it's a very minimal comparison. I do buy that Bama got in because of their last decade of play, and how we looked last year. That is not supposed to be a factor, but I guarantee it was a huge factor.

I mean it;s our own fault, we didn't really deserve the playoff, but we deserved it more than Bama. In my opinion USC probably deserved it more than either of us.

I did not think Ohio State had a chance after Iowa, but I hoped the mojo of following my behavior in 2014 might work.

Maybe this is best and maybe it is why Urban Meyer left an injured QB in rather than letting Haskins have a shot at running up the score yesterday. Still, I am disappointed.

I don’t give a shit that Ohio State didn’t make it. What I do have a problem with is leaving the door open for two teams from the same conference competing for the National Title, and setting bad precedents for future playoff games by rewarding teams for scheduling FCS cupcakes in November, or AT ALL for that matter.

If I had to put the current four playoff teams in order, while taking the above two points into consideration, I would have it be:

1) Oklahoma
2) Georgia
3) Alabama
4) Clemson

Georgia, Alabama, and Clemson all played FCS teams, so they drop. Oklahoma gets the top spot, they have the best non conference win. Georgia gets a slight nod over both Alabama and Clemson for winning their conference, and for at least having their non conference games played prior to their conference slate. Alabama gets the 3 simply to pit Georgia and Alabama against each other, and no higher as a penalty for having an FCS opponent in November. Clemson gets the 4 for having an FCS opponent in November, and also having the worst loss of the top 4 teams.
