This was not the closest call the College Football Playoff committee has made
By Max Olson 1 hour ago

GRAPEVINE, Texas — From the outside, this looked like the toughest and most controversial College Football Playoff decision in this event’s four-year history.

But inside the selection committee’s conference room at the Gaylord Texan Resort, it didn’t feel that way. They emerged from a weekend of deliberation feeling the decision between Alabama and Ohio State for this year’s No. 4 spot was not as close as it may have looked.

“The committee’s conclusion that Alabama is the fourth-best team in the nation was widespread and strong,” College Football Playoff chairman Kirby Hocutt said Sunday afternoon. “It was unequivocal.”

In fact, CFP executive director Bill Hancock argued last year’s Playoff scenario — Washington and Ohio State in, Penn State out — was a tighter, tougher vote for the committee than this one.

“This wasn’t that close,” Hancock said.

Cont'd ...
So then why didn't you guys say this last week?

We might have seen the end of Out Of Conference powerhouse matchups early in the season. Why would Ohio State schedule the likes of Oklahoma, Texas or USC on the second game of the year if an early loss would take away the Mulligan of a loss to an Iowa or a Wisconsin? Yes it is nice for recruiting to be in those matchups but it is also good for recruiting to be in the playoff. The pick of Alabama is going to hurt the real people who control College football, the TV networks.
No, unlike scared of their own shadow 'bama, hopefully most teams want a competitive schedule. Buckeyes beating the Sooners last year was one of the reasons they made the playoffs even though it turned out to be an overall negative. Karma will eventually catch up to the SEC, hopefully as soon as this bowl season.

2022/2023 the Buckeyes play ND and Texas. Hopefully both teams are competitive then.

The team who really got screwed was Auburn. Solidly beat 'bama and then had to play Georgia twice after having 2/3 star players injured against the Tide. And then to add insult to injury have to play UCF in the Peach. Talk about a no-win situation!

btw, my far fetched scenario had a chance ie the Buckeyes beat Wisky in a close competitive game and the moronic committee picks Wisky over 'bama for the final spot. Silly me thinking the committee would even consider picking any other team over 'bama just because! But the only reason the B1G title game was close was because Urban/JT kept it close.

Re: the committee start from scratch. Pick three members only all widely regarded former head coaches: say Switzer/Osborn/Bowden/Mack Brown whomever, but only three and let 'er rip. Since there's gonna be controversy regardless go w/former head coaches who know how to separate the sasquatch!

TV Ratings Saturday: Big Ten Championship scores big for FOX

B1G = 3.2/13 ~ 11.58 million
ACC = 1.6/7 ~ 5.55 million

Karma won't catch up to a conference who analysts have brainwashed literally the entire nation into thinking that they're superior to everyone in CFB. Conferences outside of the SEC are screwed! Top SEC teams can play a cupcake schedule and get away with it because most of the nation is in agreement that the SEC is better than everyone, and even if LSU loses 5 games or Ole Miss is .500, a school like Bama, UGA, Auburn, etc will get the benefit of the doubt because analysts will say that those average to below average teams would be top in B1G, Big 12, etc. its the dumbest rationale but one that is said openly by analysis, and if you go to work or are out in public, people believe the same sentiment. Thats why I was hoping that OSU could play auburn in a bowl game and not USC, because beating an sec team would quiet some of the rumblings. OSU beating USC is barely going to be a blip on the radar, and talking heads like Finebaum, McFarland, etc will still push the SEC is king narrative, even if Auburn loses(excuse will be they didn't care, just like when Utah beat Alabama) because 2 SEC still got in the CFP.

This is why Georgia and Bama loosing by 30+ would be wonderful. Only that kind of ass kicking maybe it will need to be repeated the following year will finally break the myth of the SEC that has been built.

God get these SEC homers off the air. They are weenie whining they don't want 8 teams for a playoff, yet I guarantee you if the SEC was left out entirely they would be losing their minds about the need for an 8 team playoff.

Someone should start a law, if you are a former SEC player, anytime you say anything about CFB it should be legally required for them to declare that they insanely biased SEC lovers first... so that way people that don't know of them much can realize too how much their opinion sucks.

Before anyone goes further with the auto-bid for conference champs argument, can I point out that in 2012 OSU & PSU were both ineligible for the post season, so the Big Ten champ was Wisconsin, who finished the season 8-6?

Well when no one watches the SEC playoff classic this year AGAIN because the bucks were left out they'll have no one to blame but themselves

I am ok with being left out but now the longer this day goes the more angry I'm becoming with Alabama being put in.

2015 we did the same damn thing this year's tide team did and got left out. We had hands down the most talented team in college football that year, lost a late season game to the one team we couldnt lose to, didn't win our conference or division, and had no quality wins.

Not a problem for Alabama though.. no quality wins, an FCS opponent late in November, lost to the only good opponent they faced all year, lost the division and subsequently their conference. Oh it doesn't matter because Alabama is clearly a great team right?!

Yeah suck my nut sack espn and Alabama you deserve shit for your poor "body of work" and pass into the playoffs. The issue here is the committee like everyone else has this preconceived notion that Alabama always has to be good right? I mean it's Alabama! They've won like 10.5 million nattys the past 10 years so how can we leave them out? It was never a fucking debate. I bet the 10 twats that voted on the #4 spot had their ballots filled in and submitted by 11pm Saturday night. Shit probably even got them pre filled out early Saturday AM so they wouldn't miss the bedtime FaceTime with Saban before they went to bed.

I heard a saying all week and it's bothered me... "most deserving or the eye test". Well they did neither but how do you not go 100% most deserving?!??? When I hire employees I don't give a kangaroo nut sack what they look look like SHOW ME WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.

Last year we got in because we EARNED IT AND DESERVED IT. 3 top ten wins and loss to another top 10 team is why we got the nod over a team that beat us (combined with ped getting destroyed by michigan). Yes we got destroyed by Iowa to get our 2nd loss but what the fuck has Alabama done to say they're the better team? Unequivocally better my ass.

I'd look unequivocally better at football too if I was out there stiff arming 10 years olds.

So to moral of this rant is this.

You didn't earn it Alabama and you got in on your past success. So this will be the 2nd time OSU will have given you the opportunity to win a natty (2012). I hope you and your partners at espn choke on the biggest bag of dicks. Also tell the kids in college down there that the sweeping over comb hair is out of touch now so tell cole or mason to cut their fucking hair
