2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

Well when no one watches the SEC playoff classic this year AGAIN because the bucks were left out they'll have no one to blame but themselves

I am ok with being left out but now the longer this day goes the more angry I'm becoming with Alabama being put in.

2015 we did the same damn thing this year's tide team did and got left out. We had hands down the most talented team in college football that year, lost a late season game to the one team we couldnt lose to, didn't win our conference or division, and had no quality wins.

Not a problem for Alabama though.. no quality wins, an FCS opponent late in November, lost to the only good opponent they faced all year, lost the division and subsequently their conference. Oh it doesn't matter because Alabama is clearly a great team right?!

Yeah suck my nut sack espn and Alabama you deserve [Mark May] for your poor "body of work" and pass into the playoffs. The issue here is the committee like everyone else has this preconceived notion that Alabama always has to be good right? I mean it's Alabama! They've won like 10.5 million nattys the past 10 years so how can we leave them out? It was never a fucking debate. I bet the 10 twats that voted on the #4 spot had their ballots filled in and submitted by 11pm Saturday night. [Mark May] probably even got them pre filled out early Saturday AM so they wouldn't miss the bedtime FaceTime with Saban before they went to bed.

I heard a saying all week and it's bothered me... "most deserving or the eye test". Well they did neither but how do you not go 100% most deserving?!??? When I hire employees I don't give a kangaroo nut sack what they look look like SHOW ME WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.

Last year we got in because we EARNED IT AND DESERVED IT. 3 top ten wins and loss to another top 10 team is why we got the nod over a team that beat us (combined with ped getting destroyed by michigan). Yes we got destroyed by Iowa to get our 2nd loss but what the fuck has Alabama done to say they're the better team? Unequivocally better my ass.

I'd look unequivocally better at football too if I was out there stiff arming 10 years olds.

So to moral of this rant is this.

You didn't earn it Alabama and you got in on your past success. So this will be the 2nd time OSU will have given you the opportunity to win a natty (2012). I hope you and your partners at espn choke on the biggest bag of dicks. Also tell the kids in college down there that the sweeping over comb hair is out of touch now so tell cole or mason to cut their fucking hair
The "eye test" is the biggest bullshit argument for Bama. Watching them against Fresno st, ole miss or Arkansas passes some eye test?

This, coupled with Hocutt's statement on Tuesday that very little separated us and Alabama (obviously that was not true) is what troubles me most about all of this.

What's worse for that 2015 team is it improved its resume after the MSU loss by going to Michigan and absolutely crushing the #10 team in the country. The only thing this year's Bama team did after its loss was sit around and watch TV.

Just my opinion here.

The committee did this on purpose to create enough backlash that they will "be forced to expand the playoff structure", i.e. get mo' money out da deal.

If you go by the "logic" numbnuts spouted in the interview as to how they determined #4, then USC actually has the best resume, followed by Wiscy, then Ohio State, and then Gump Nation. The fact the Running Gumps are in was to break the current model.

Again, just my opinion.

The longer this thread goes the more it sounds like PoSU fans last year, only we don't have a H2H win over Alabama. No one thought we'd get in the CFP after the Iowa debacle but we managed to convince ourselves that it didn't matter by the time yesterday rolled around. It did matter.

Agree with all of this. I'm not bummed we're not in and I never thought we deserved to be in. I am ecstatic that we beat PSU, MSU, ScUM, and Wiscy to win the BIG. I'm looking forward to playing USC and seeing how we handle Darnold. I'm thrilled with how the team bounced back after the loss to Iowa and the growth we have seen over the season.

I’m more “upset” that the ‘15 team got left out, given the new completely subjective “eye test” being the standard, than I am about this year.

They are the ones who really got fucked by this committees ever changing evaluation criteria since the “eye test” said they were one of the most talented collections of college players ever assembled.

This year is a big “meh” for me.

The 2017 OSU to 2016 PSU comparison is just silly, as you don't even have to try to find reasons that comparison breaks down. That said, end of the day, 2017 OSU only needs to look in the mirror as to why it's out in the cold right now (and that includes barely hanging on against a UW team Saturday night that it more or less dominated on the stat sheet).

All of that said, I still think you can be OK with OSU not getting in, and yet also (rightly) criticize the committee for what it's actions and the precedent it's setting (and contravening).

I don't know that we convinced ourselves as much as Kirby Holcutt lead us to believe the door was still open. When Rece Davis asked Kirby Holcutt about how much separation there was from 5-8 last Tuesday, Kirby should have just said, "I'm sorry, Rece, but there's very little separation from 5 through 7. Ohio St lost to Iowa by 31, they're a distant 8th.

I'm not upset we missed the playoff. I'm a little bit pissed we were used to drive ratings for their made-for-TV selection show when the committee had apparently determined there was no way Ohio State was getting in weeks ago.

How many TVs are in South Carolina, Alabama and Oklahoma? At least Georgia can bring Atlanta. Truly, I hope ratings fall through the floor for this quaint little regional throw down.
Oh it will be the least watched playoff yet Mark it down

That's why it's bull shit... easy to look great playing a shitty schedule

I'm pissed the committee says one thing one week and completely goes the opposite direction the next. They brought scrutiny on themselves with the way they handled things. All they had to say was "We don't view Alabama and Ohio State/Wisconsin" as comparable teams and that would have been that. No one would have argued.
