2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

I wanted to see Bama left out too, because fuck Bama, but if another team had our losses no one on this board would be arguing on their behalf. If anything we'd be laughing at their fans for thinking they got ripped off.

Us being left out and Bama getting in are not the same thing. I would have been perfectly fine with UCF getting in this year. They would probably get waxed but if you want to argue deserve like Saban was trying to they deserve it more than Bama.

I don’t think it’s so much that we didn’t get in, it’s that it’s Bama who beat nobody and the committee clearly doesn’t keep a consistent stance on how it ranks teams. They just need to come out and say they only care about eye test and nothing else much matters. We watched our 2015 team who was loads better than this Bama get left out.

Simply put past success and your name should not get you in, but this time it did.

a requirement of three top 10 wins is arbitrary and relies too much on the whims of other teams. though your proposal doesn't outright exclude two teams from the same conference, it does in effect. i'd much rather see a playoff expansion than guaranteeing berths in a 4-team playoff.

The argument could be made that guaranteeing spots to conference champions effectively does expand the playoff. Leave it to the conferences to ensure that they are putting forth their "best" team (champ) for playoff consideration... Alabama lost last week to the team that lost the conference this week - that is a totally obvious disqualifier. This is a playoff we're talking about after all.

And c'mon, everything about this "committee" approach is arbitrary.

Hell I’d have been far more happy if the committee said “Screw it, only 3 teams deserve to be. Congrats Clemson you get a bye and play the winner of Oklahoma vs UGA”

Hell I’d have been fine if USC was let in over both of us.

I don’t think we deserved the playoff, but compared to Bama we did.

This was not the closest call the College Football Playoff committee has made
By Max Olson 1 hour ago

GRAPEVINE, Texas — From the outside, this looked like the toughest and most controversial College Football Playoff decision in this event’s four-year history.

But inside the selection committee’s conference room at the Gaylord Texan Resort, it didn’t feel that way. They emerged from a weekend of deliberation feeling the decision between Alabama and Ohio State for this year’s No. 4 spot was not as close as it may have looked.

“The committee’s conclusion that Alabama is the fourth-best team in the nation was widespread and strong,” College Football Playoff chairman Kirby Hocutt said Sunday afternoon. “It was unequivocal.”

In fact, CFP executive director Bill Hancock argued last year’s Playoff scenario — Washington and Ohio State in, Penn State out — was a tighter, tougher vote for the committee than this one.

“This wasn’t that close,” Hancock said.
