CFB Weekly Thread 2017 CFB Week 4 Open Thread

The worst thing that happened to tOSU fans was Saban building a dynasty in Tuscaloosa. So many of us can't come to grips with what rarified air Saban is in. I'd argue he's the greatest CFB coach of all time. So many of our fans desperately want to be that and aren't satisfied with how damn, even historically, good we've been over the last decade and a half. It seems like every year is NC or bust, and that makes for a lot of disappointed people.

Saban has a system and sticks with it. Something he learned from Don James at Kent State. Also, he's not afraid to bench anyone in order to find someone who can play better. Saban benched his starting qb a few years ago after a couple games IIRC. Saban really, really doesn't like to lose.

As mentioned, it helps having the top recruiting class year after year like Meyer, but winning breeds winning.
Saban benched his starting QB in the middle of the USC game last year and still beat them by 50.

Clemson was tied with Boston Fucking College 7-7 in the 4th...pass out already. :drunks:
And Clemson shut us out so...

I asked a question regarding bama not Clemson.

We recruit just as well as bama so why do they dominate on defense every year and we struggle? Serious question here...

They have folks go pro early too so I don't buy that excuse anymore... Why can they shut out vandy when we can't shut out UNLV?

To me Saban is no doubt the best... only team to be in the playoffs every year. Also they win their conference every year too which I took for granted with tress.

I honestly think If Tressel was here we would've won at least 4 or 5 of the past 6 big ten titles... we wouldn't have won the natty in 15' but would've the big ten the majority of the past six years.

Gonna go out on a limb with a wild guess here:

Because they're better than we are?

Easy really...

1. They have tradition/prestige
2. They're located in the middle of a recruiting hotbed
3. They have the best coach in football
4. They hire incredible assistants.

5. They don't lose their good assistants as often

I think that's really part of it. If Urban was able to keep guys like Ash, Herman, Fickell, etc. as long as Saban kept Kirby Smart... there would be a lot more consistency.
Every game this year I get to hear about JT being on his 3rd OC.

I don't even know what Ash is trying to accomplish. Rutgers is a dead end job. A career killer, if you will. At least Herman took a smart route.

Continuity is a huge part of it, I agree. They lose OCs fairly frequently, but that defense stays strong year in and year out because they recruit like nobody else and have the same guys coaching them.

I just don't buy that though... we are neck and neck with them when it comes to recruits.

My answer is Saban is ruthless .... doesn't care for your ranking if you're good you'll play. Sheffield couldn't get on the field and Why? Well because he wasn't good enough.... yet he's a starter here?

How is it that a player transfers there and then starts here.... kind of sucks to think about actually

He is easily the greatest of all time. People will argue otherwise, but there is absolutely no other coach in the history of the sport who would be able to replicate his results at Alabama since he took over.

I am one of the guilty. However, it is frustrating to watch Saban take over a down in the dumps Alabama program, pull in the best talent year after year, and most importantly, coach them so well that they have not lost a game by more than a single score since his first year.

We pull in similar recruits to Alabama, our coaching staff (at least on paper) is on par with theirs, and we have every resource they do - but for some reason, we are unable to come even close to matching Saban's consistency. That does stick in my craw.

Dude, give it a rest, already. We're not bammer. Nobody in modern college football is or has been. Stop the insanity.
