CFB Weekly Thread 2017 CFB Week 4 Open Thread

Hope dantonio/Sparty enjoyed their little window of relevance. It's over.

Dantonio's strategy isnt going to create perennial 10win teams... it was outside the norm they were strong 13-15.
They'll be back. Especially so long as Urban is recruiting well nationally - leaving a lot of Tressel-esque 3star talent available in Ohio and Midwest that we'd otherwise have a fence around.

I don't understand what happened there. Like, what changed that much, other than the theory that 'Bama broke them?
They're strong teams were built around the nasty defenses they fielded. Narduzzi left and they haven't been the same since. Plus, dantonio benefitted from several years of poor in state recruiting by dickrod and hoke. The harbrau yanked that out from under them.

TL;dr...they're back to being sparty.

It's looking like it's going to take one of those weird 5 TO blue moon games ala Ole Miss a couple of years back to beat Bama. Their D is looking as dominant as ever and they don't have Lane Kiffin fucking around for 3.5 quarters on offense. I don't think anyone is in their league this year. I even think Clemson would get stomped. No Deshaun Watson to throw for 500 yards again and their new QB is nowhere near Watson. i've said it before but it annoys me to no end how well coached Bama is year after year.
as good-to-great meyer is, there is still a massive chasm between the two. yeah, i know meyer's team beat saban's team a few years ago. the difference is that saban is always in it, and his teams never lose like the clemson and oklahoma games. if they lose, they lose after being close in the fourth.

They shut our a semi decent Vandy team today....

Why do you guys think they can keep on this course but we struggle with a senior QB?
Bammer is an anomaly. I know we want to be THAT good, but nobody has had a run like them in modern CFB, and I don't think anyone will again when Saban retires. He's the best coach in football, period. Urban is a second.

We're a remarkably spoiled fan base. Look at our record since 2002. Aside from slight dips in 2004 and 2011, we've been a lock for 10-12 wins every year. Nobody else has been that consistent for this long.

A couple of years ago I would have said Urban is right behind Saban. Hell I would have put Urban ahead because I think Saban is cheating his ass off. Recently though? Not so much.

Kinda like being a pretty good swimmer, but then you notice the guy in the next lane is Michael Phelps.

Hard to get too happy after you make the comparison.

Saban has a system and sticks with it. Something he learned from Don James at Kent State. Also, he's not afraid to bench anyone in order to find someone who can play better. Saban benched his starting qb a few years ago after a couple games IIRC. Saban really, really doesn't like to lose.

As mentioned, it helps having the top recruiting class year after year like Meyer, but winning breeds winning.
