2015-16 Ohio State Quarterback Discussion

The Wolverines are going to be JACKED for OSU, and I hate that that game is right after MSU. Obviously OSU will be the far better team on paper, but even after the last decade or so I never take those vermin for granted. I expect them to play well over their heads, and after what will undoubtedly be a physical tilt with Sparty, even an average, as oppoosed to flat, performance might not cut it. I do expect OSU to also play above average that week and win, but every team has different chemistry and you never know for sure.

I love that the Buckeyes play a real team before scUM. Last year Ohio State played to the level of their competition for the most part. I want them going into Ann Arbor riding high after a big win should they beat the Spartans.

I hereby take the pledge: after the opening kickoff in Blacksburg, until after the title game, I am not going to Monday morning quarterback, or say tOSU quarterback X should be playing instead of tOSU quarterback Y.

If you want to take the pledge, like this post.

Should be playing? Won't say it. But I reserve the right to express the desire to see what a particular QB could do against whatever team the Bucks are destroying at the moment.

Yeah, but the difference is that the Wolverines will likely lose that game without putting forth a great effort or expending a ton of emotional energy and need to beat us just to get to a bowl or something. OSU will get Sparty's best shot and expend a lot of energy in prevailing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anticipating a loss: I'm just not entirely cavalier about THE GAME. I am glad that OSU's bye is relatively late this year. Gotta believe that there's a cumulative effect to playing Sparty, jacked up UM, and Wiscy? (would much rather see the Huskers or Minny) back to back to back.

It's like playing 3 Preseason Heismans in a row instead of 3 actual Heisman finalists in a row! The B1G East is so tough! It's a grind every week... we just beat each other up...

Anyway, I'm not actually sure what to expect from MSU this year. Last year they lived a lot off their Offense... but without Langford and Lippett, that's kind of gutted. Will their D get back to 2013 levels after losing Drummond? They do still have Cook. Dantonio is a developer, so it remains to be seen who he can develop in 2015... they could be really good by the end of the season, or they could be sputtering having failed to find the answers. I'd point out that several players remarked (before playoffs) that East Lansing was the most physically punishing game they had last year... which says as much about scUM as it does about Dantonio's teams imo.

Harbaugh will be desperate for a win in the Toilet Bowl regardless of situation, however.

MSU will be an enigma all year, they lost a lot of talent on offense, and Cook isn't good enough to make up for all that firepower by himself. And the RB position is absolutely in the air now. Dantonio is good at developing talent, but this may be an off year, IMO. And OSU is loaded this year, relying on Cook will be like tossing meat to wolves against our defense

Dantonio has not been consistent at developing offensive talent (he's been good but streaky). He's also missing Narduzzi which is a pretty substantial loss.

I guess I was alluding more to his RB and O line development which have seemed to be quite good and consistent. And I forgot about losing Narduzzi, that may have been bigger than losing any of the players

I was thinking more defense... that's usually where MSU makes their bread and butter. Last year was kind of fluke with Cook, Langford, and Lippett imo... otherwise that definitely would've been an off year after losing a lot of the 2013 talent on D.
Good point about Narduzzi.

I'll pitch in my two cents on this season's Sparty game. I don't see it as too dangerous a game provided we execute as we should:
  1. We pounded them at their place in a night time prime time game...this year's game is in The Shoe
  2. Aside from a few loses on both offense and defense we're essentially intact from last year, now with two Heisman-caliber QBs (three if Braxton does remain at QB), the nation's best RB, and a greatly improved OL
  3. As pointed out above by several folks, Sparty has some holes to fill...they won't be the same team as they were

They were pretty good with Cousins, Cunningham and company. Hoyer was decent as well, but they tend to have down years on offense. They consistently field good rbs but can't always run the ball with them.

With Oregon in East Lansing and Notre Dame early in the season we'll have lots of early information on Sparty. I hope they're good enough to win both games.

Now then, how has Collier looked this spring? Is he getting any snaps?
