I seem to remember Barrett missing wide open receivers, too. As good as our QBs are, each has areas of improvement. Cardale made some big-time throws while at the same time missing a few open guys. But the tweaks you're talking about, are still a major thing in the grand scheme of things when you're playing as the starting QB of a team trying to repeat and taking every teams best shot. Those tweaks, are Cardale being able to hit small windows in the short and intermediate game and have better touch on the long ball. I still remember a long passes that Cardale overthrew a wide open Devin Smith. If Cardalw can work on his touch, consistency and decision making in the option game, then he's undoubtedly our best QB overall, but that's a big if. JT right now does all of that, except he can't throw the ball with the same arm strength of Cardale(or even Braxton) but I'd rather have an uber accurate QB with very good decision making skills in the option. I understand what you say about EzE being more dangerous with Cardale due to defenses being afraid of the long ball, but width JT teams have to account for literally every skill player on the field because he can read defenses much better than Cardale, IMO. Cardale didnt read defenses well in the last 3 games but because he's the size of a DE, he couldn't exactly be brought down easily either
1. Cardale did what he did with a line that grown together all season long.
2. Cardale led the team against at least two, possibly three of the best defenses the team played all year and tore each a new asshole.
3. But Cardale did not run the complete offense and the Bucks moved away from no huddle/hurry up perhaps for a reason.
4. Cardale and Brax are more instinctive players - they excel in off-the-script play(s).
5. JT is a student of the game. He knows the offense better than anyone, including Brax and especially better than Cardale.
6. But how do you ignore what Brax and Cardale can do off-script?
My mind is whirling.
I just don't believe that teams can get any more jacked up to play us than they already have been. Coming into last season we still were on a 24-game regular season win streak and 16-game B1G regular season win streak. Just look at how VT celebrated after they beat us...you would've though they just had won the national title.Beating an Urban Meyer led team previously doesn't have near the bragging rights as they do now. There's a reason there have been very few repeat NCs in a very long time.
I wholeheartedly disagree with "especially better than Cardale". Cardale has been here a year longer, and has worked really hard to overcome the "we ain't here to play school" stigma. Barrett may be somewhat more knowledgeable than Miller or Jones, but I don't think the difference is that much at all.5. JT is a student of the game. He knows the offense better than anyone, including Brax and especially better than Cardale.
has there ever been a returning qb in cfb history that won a national championship and wasn't the starter the next year?
Barrett didn't win OPOY for 2014...Melvin Gordon did.I don't think so. But there also has never been a team that won an NC that returned 1 QB that won an NC and 2 that finished in the top 5 in the Heisman voting and both were also reigning Offensive POY in their conference...
Barrett didn't win OPOY for 2014...Melvin Gordon did.
and first and goal from inside the 3 doesn't become second and goal from the 9...
but i think they got that figured out
You and I rarely disagree, but on this we do. I think we run better overall now with Cardale as the starter. To me, it's no coincidence that Zeke ripped off the only 200-yard games he had all year in the three post-season games, which were quarterbacked by 12 Gauge. The deep threat posed by 12 Gauge opens the run up more, and if he is able to tweak his passing just a tad the offense will be all but unstoppable. Barrett would probably lead us to an undefeated regular season, but with Jones as the starter I'd say it would be a near-lock...
