2014 TSUN Shenanigans and Arguments

It's not just any other job, it's his alma mater. I certainly hope an Ohio State alum in a similar position would value coaching the Buckeyes over an NFL job.

The talking out of both sides I've seen over the past weeks has been amusing. The Game is supposedly the biggest deal on the planet to anyone who has ever been involved, but the chance to lead the Oakland Fucking Raiders is somehow more attractive all of a sudden? People bitch that nobody else in the B1G is spending their BTN dividends on football, but when M*ch*g*n finally starts acting like a big boy program and wants to pay somebody who has had success above the mid-major level it's suddenly a big risk?

The 'M' on his hat will be reason enough to fucking hate him. As an opposing fanbase, there's no need for the sort of rhetorical gymnastics I've seen to talk [Mark May] about M*ch*g*n.

By all means, go find and quote any post of mine in which I lauded the need for a strong rivalry with Michigan, the need for a strong Big Ten, or any of the other "talking out of both sides" that I have done. After all, you did quote my post in your rant. But I'll save you some time--you won't find it. I'm interested in what makes OSU better, not in what makes the Big Ten better, and certainly not in what makes Michigan better.

Good for you?

The first paragraph was in response to your post - hence the quote.

The rest was in response to the general attitudes prevailing in the thread, hence the very general address of multiple threads and a few weeks worth of posts that I've been reading. I wasn't going to quote them all.

The problem is the middle of the conference... it'll still be that way with Harbaugh.
And yes, it's disappointing that the only programs with ambition outside Ohio happen to be a cult and a hated rival -- who can only find success directly at our expense (recruits, wins, etc.)
Contrast that to Nebraska, for example -- whose aspirations could be fulfilled by exploiting a weak Texas, we rarely butt heads with for recruits, and most years only chance of meeting is in a resume-building CCG.

I think the middle of the conference has been decent. I think the problem is that the middle of the conference (MSU & Wisky in particular) have been forced into filling the roles that the supposed blue bloods should be taking care of. If PSU & UM get their acts together, all of a sudden the upper middle of the conference looks pretty good with MSU, Wisky, Neb, & Iowa.

Wiscy has to be considered a "blue blood" or whatever for the West Division. Otherwise you just have Corn and Corn.

This highlights the other major issue for the conference. Long-term, the East will be just fine.

Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan
MSU, Rutgers, Maryland
Indiana

The West however is another story. And it's the West that most of us are complaining about having no ambition and being incompetent.

Wiscy Nebraska (and both are really a half-step below the 3 in the East)
Iowa Minnesota
Northwestern Purdue Illinois

The alma mater excuse, is still a joke, IM . He's going to scUM because they broke the bank to get him. And I wouldn't hope that OSU has a fan base smug enough to expect an OSU alum to come and coach the team, as much as I'd like for OSU to hire the most qualified coach. Last I checked, Tressel was not an OSU alum(though he was a positional coach in the 80s) but did a damn good job while he was here. Expecting an alum to take over Is the type of shit scUM fans expect.
And those that think the Game Is the biggest in the world are those who have had no success in the NFL. Id be hard pressed to find players or coaches who have won or gotten to a Super bowl that truly believe that The Game is bigger. The Game is immensely important, but not even an NC is the super bowl. The reason Harbaugh would be taking a risk in going to scUM, is if he falters, what happens? I doubt scUM is where he wants to end his career, as he seems like hyper competitive and highly ambitious guy. He produces a few 8-9 win seasons and no Big 10 title, I don't see an NFL team calling for him to come back. That's why going to Oakland and being a GM and coach seems much more highly rated, IMO.
