At this point, OSU's path is pretty clear--the committee's made it clear that OSU will not be in the top 4 simply by winning the BTCCG. It's going to take a win coupled with a loss by Alabama, TCU or Florida State. I think if Arizona upsets Oregon, the committee will put Arizona in the top 4.

The committee has tipped its hand on OSU--the committee absolutely killed Minnesota (dropped them at least 8 spots) for losing to #14 on the road, and gave Wisconsin no credit (only bumped them up 1 spot) for beating the #18 ranked team.

I can't disagree with anything here. That said, the committee's managed to make the playoff--for which so many people were clamoring--into a ridiculous farce in year 1.

Actually I think FSU stays at #4 provided neither they nor Bama gets upset.
I think the committee doesn't really give a damn who exactly is 3/4... they're more interested in creating matchups that fit with the bowls.

Alabama-FSU-Ohio State-Baylor is pecking order for the Sugar Bowl.
Oregon-TCU-Ohio State-Baylor is pecking order for the Rose Bowl.

If neither FSU or Ohio State lose, the only part of their resume that doesn't cancel out with TCU would be their second top 15 win.

The question then is whether a rematch win over Oregon cancels out their loss to USC.

I'm not going to let anybody get away with comparing that team to this year's FSU. 2002 OSU struggled with inferior teams because the offense wasn't asked to do much of anything. FSU struggles because they play with their heads up their ass for more than half the game.

Correct. However, the committee is going to do everything in their power to alleviate any controversy, which is exactly what this week's poll set up.

If FSU wins, they move to #1.

They want them in the Sugar Bowl, but they also know they'd have a hard time arguing the undefeated resume at #4 if they pass their final test.

They also don't want it to appear as if TCU is in the "Danger Zone" if they win.

That's why they have them at #3.

EDIT: To clarify I think the Oregon/Bama Rose bowl is inevitable from a cash/tv perspective if both teams are eligible and you know there will be lobbying for it. It's less that FSU is desired in the Sugar Bowl and more the Rose Bowl really wants Oregon/Bama. TCU is in a safe spot if Ohio State sneaks by Wisconsin and they handle whoever the fuck they play. It also allows the committee to play the drama/redemption card if Ohio State looks really good vs Wisconsin.

FSU's season is really desirable for this playoff, TBH. They could make a good argument for #1 with a win over GT, but they'd also be a good competetive match-up with whoever winds up #4.

There's no way FSU moves to #1 w/o a lot of chaos regardless of my speculation about bowl matchups.

If my speculation is accurate (and you seem to agree w/o understanding it), there is no way FSU #1 happens at all because it'd necessitate swapping Bama and FSU after both win... which is just straight up nonsense.
IMO Miss St (and later Bama) and Oregon moved into the top-2 specifically to squat for Sugar and Rose seeds respectively.
If Oregon wins out they're guaranteed Rose Bowl.
If Bama wins out they're guaranteed Sugar Bowl -- and previously was the case for Miss St as well. It's interesting that this was the case before and after their head-to-head.

I believe what we're seeing now with TCU and FSU is further lining up bowl matchups. With previous #4 Miss St. out, FSU becomes an obvious choice for the Sugar Bowl spot -- which means dropping them to #4 since Bama is #1. TCU moves into top-4, but jumps into #3 specifically in order to place them in the Rose Bowl against #2 Oregon.
In the off chance that Oregon, TCU, or FSU loses this week, it wouldn't surprise me if Ohio State jumps to #3.

To me it looked like the committee was keeping TCU #4 just so they could justify keeping them there if a conference champ had two losses or more. However, if all 4 favorites won conference championships, the #5 would leap TCU. That theory is out the window, so I don't know WTF is going on.

However, it's hard to imagine that there will be no upsets between Mizzou-Bama, Arizona-Oregon, or Ga Tech-FSU. I'd bet there's a 70% chance one of those 3 lose, and a 30-40% chance two of those lose, which could make the Buckeyes #2 or 3 on Sunday.

Can't argue absolutes when the conversation is purely speculation.

We agree that it's more about the Bowl matchups than it is justifying rankings 1-4. That's my point.

I just think the committee, and football fans in general, would rather see Bama play a bowl game NOT in their backyard and against a team that's wanted their shot at them for a while. Oregon/Bama in the Rose seems to be the most pleasing match-up in every regard "if my speculation is accurate". So everything else gets based off of that.

I'm equally as adamant that "There's no way" an undefeated FSU coming off of a win over #11 in the ACCCG doesn't move out of #4.

If I understand you correctly, you believe if favorites win the final rankings will look something like

FSU
Bama
Oregon
[somebody]

Resulting in #1 FSU in the Sugar Bowl against somebody, and Bama-Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Is that right? (not being adversarial, just making sure so the conditions are clear)

If I have that right... I'll donate $20 in the event that either FSU is #1 on Sunday, or the Rose Bowl matchup is Bama and Oregon.

Since this bet involves FSU winning and probably Ohio State being left out, and that makes me feel icky... I'll donate $20 in the event that FSU loses, and another $20 if Ohio State makes the cut.

But...but....but, we're Theee Ohio State. All we have to do is win out, and we're in. I seem to have kept hearing that over and over and hokeing over.

I'll say this one last time. We're getting fed a shit sandwich not because the quality of our loss but because of the quality of our wins (i.e. our conference). It sucks fucking balls, but don't blame the god damned system. Blame Delany for being Mike Slive's fucking gimp and not having the balls to fight for a conference champions rule. Blame the fucking Big Ten ADs for worrying more about taking care of the bowls who'll be taking them on private cruises to St. Bart's this Winter than their own god damned schools.

Congrats on the BTN, Delany. That'll be your legacy, but I have one simple question. Did Mike Slive force you to make him a sandwich on the way out after treating you like a plastic fuck doll or did you at least get the common decency of having some cabfare on teh counter?
