2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

you're high if you think you can call our loss at home to Virginia Tech and TCU's loss on the road against Baylor anywhere close to equal. that's straight up absurd.

Not high, and I don't think TCU's loss to Baylor is equal to us losing to VaTech. I said that Baylor is garbage, and that TCU lost to a bad team. The rankings are bullshit. EVERY team in the Big XII scores a ton of points because the only school that even thinks about playing defense in that league is KState. We will get to see what happens Saturday.

Edit: I also think that Gene Smith fucked us by moving the VaTech game from week four to week two. Play them after Kent, instead of after Navy, and we roll them.

Funny thing football, the team that scores the most points actually WINS the games.

Weird, I know.

We owe Gene so much, for so many decisions.

As for TCU, they gave up 62 points in their loss. They barely scraped by their best conference win (KSU) while we dominated ours. Riddle me this Batmen? Why are they in, and we're out? We're Ohio State, and they're a glorified mid-major. Oh yeah, they play in a good conference, and we play in a crap one!

But hey, Michigan is in the crapper, so all is good with the universe. Gather round the circle jerk as we all exorcise the demons of 199x!
If I'm not mistaken, they crushed KSU. Beat them by 21.

I get that once you lose, all bets are off and you lose the ability to claim you aren't getting the benefit of the doubt. That said--your post only looks at the issue from one angle. Another angle is that OSU (assuming a win against UW this weekend) will have beaten 9 bowl-eligible teams. TCU will have beaten 5.

Eh. Who doesn't go to a bowl these days? I don't like that measurement. It is alarming that TCU only beat 5 teams with at least 6 wins though. Plus the fact that they only play 3 non-conference games......are there really that few Big12 teams that are going bowling?

If head-to-head match-ups don't matter (TCU/Baylor) why are we determining the champion with head-too-head match-ups (playoffs)?
Simple. Because you're using an entire season to choose who gets to play head to head match ups (playoffs). TCU and Baylor played more than a 3 point game on Baylor's home field....so they're being judged for all of them.

Off topic, but I don't know why we ever scheduled Navy. Nothing against the school, but I would never willingly chose to play them or Georgia Tech in a regular season. We lost to USC after Navy. Notre Dame has a losing record the game after for the last 10 years (maybe longer). Since 2009, 17 teams from major conferences have played Navy and then gone on to play an fbs team the week after, and they are 8-10 in those games. It's not the type of offense you want to prepare for or heal up after in the grind of a season.

If we didn't beat Michigan State, they'd be in our spot right now. They didn't go undefeated....they just didn't lose to [Mark May]ty Virginia Tech.

We didn't take care of business every bit as much as the 4 teams ahead of us at all. We lost to a [Mark May]ty team. None of them did.

Your point about Sparty seems to be making my point. "They'd be in our spot right now." So, with their only loss being at Oregon, they would still be on the outside looking in. That is my point exactly; that it's not the quality of our loss screwing us over, it's the quality of our conference.

None of this shit really matters. Ohio State could win by 50 and they won't get into the playoffs.

I hope they win by 50 and get excluded. I have no real desire to waste time watching meaningless football games this winter anyway.

I don't know how anybody can say with any certainty what will happen with this group. Maybe TCU playing a terrible ISU team, combined with Baylor beating KSU and actually earning the Big12 title will drop TCU 2 spots and bump FSU and us up to 3 and 4. They've shown every week that these rankings don't work like the polls do.
