2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

I have pretty much stayed on the sidelines on the issue of our place among the top teams until now. If we beat Wiscy, and I don't care if it's a close win then it is absolute BULLSHIT if we get left out at the expense of TCU or Baylor. Total bullshit. Does anyone in their right mind think that TCU could have went on the road to Michigan State and handled Sparty the way we did? No way. Have they played a road game below 60 degrees btw?

You can't just take our best moment and question if any other team could match it. The 4 teams to get into the playoffs played an entire season....and that season is what is being judged. Yes we dominated Sparty even with a few early screwups on our part. We also messed around against Penn State and tried to let Indiana beat us. Oh....and there's that loss to a pathetic (though not that night) Virginia Tech at home. I would like to think that a win over highly ranked Wisconsin, which would mean a B1G Championship, would be enough to push us over TCU or Baylor. If it's not...it's because we didn't do enough with what we were given.

If we beat Wiscy in a conference championship game please tell me the top 2 wins that TCU will have that will be more impressive? They haven't beaten a team as good as Sparty and don't play in a conference championship game so........

I'm going to play devil's advocate on this one. TCU beat Baylor which is ranked above Sparty. In addition, who the hell has Michigan State beat? They shit the bed against the only highly ranked teams they played. They are clearly a good team but let's not pretend that they are world beaters.

All I'm saying is, the season needs to be judged as a whole. We're obviously going to look at just the good things OSU has done and ignore the VTech loss, the poor starts against Navy, Indiana, Michigan, the lousy finish against PSU. People against Ohio State are going to ignore the wins and focus on those warts. I don't know TCU's schedule to know if their ups and downs are better than ours. Their loss obviously is. I think they just struggled with Kansas, though. I'm just saying....you can't just look at our best vs their best or our worst vs their worst. Look at the whole picture.

WVU almost beat TCU. That and the Kansas game were comeback in the 4th quarter to win...

If Baylor is better than TCU, then its between Baylor and OSU.

I don't see how anyone can advocate for baylor given the fact that they have only beaten 2 teams with a winning record.
Baylor's not better than TCU, because they didn't prove it on the field. Scratch that, they didn't prove it on the field in a playoff game.

For the rest, the distinction between number 4 and number 5 is always going to be small and highly debatable. Or at least for the next two years until the schools with clout have heard enough of the complaints and expand it to an 8-team playoff so that we can witness a greater number of postseason rematches.

Road win at Sparty. Road win in 20 degree weather at Minny. If we get a win against the best RB in the country (likely #2 Heisman candidate) and one of the best defenses in the country then Baylor and TCU each have their own cheek on my back side they can pucker up and smooch. Neither of them wins all 3 of those games. We have yet to beat Wiscy and it's certainly no small task. But, if we do, anyone that says either of those teams would be 3-0 in those games is nuts. I personally don't see it. As stated though....just beat Wiscy and worry about the rest later.

IMO if TCU gets in the playoff they get smoked and it doesn't matter who they play. I'm not trying to say they're a bad team, but i honestly don't see them, or Baylor for that matter, as one of the top 4 in the country. Of coarse, as always, my scarlet glasses are fitting perfectly right now.

If head-to-head match-ups don't matter (TCU/Baylor) why are we determining the champion with head-too-head match-ups (playoffs)?
If head-to-head match-ups decide who is the better team, does that mean that WVU is better than Baylor? Does it mean that LSU is better than Wisky? Does it mean that Ole Piss is better than Bama, VaTech is better than OSU???? I think all of those are a huge no. Some times a team doesn't show up to play, and sometimes a bad team gives is everything that have (last two cases). Sometimes one team is winning by a lot and then takes the foot off the gas and the other catches up, and before the better team gets going again, it's too late to stop the momentum (first two cases). In all of the cases the better team lost. How did Baylor get to be 21 pts behind with 11 to play if they were the better team? They won once TCU went into prevent/ drain the clock mode. FSU came back from a least 2 games this year when a team went into prevent defense too early. I would call the other team, the better team in those games.

No what it means is ... all things (records) being equal... You look at head to head.... that would mean if WVU was 10-1 and beat Baylor (then they are better than baylor), same with VaTech and OSU....
